While not perfect, Season 1 is superbly paced and delicatly plotted, creating one of my favourite Seasons of Network TV ever made. It is astonishingly conistent, considering it's episode count, and was addictive from start to finish.

'Once' delivers the poster child of great Season Finales, providing just as much resolution (emotional and plot wise) as it does questions for the future, making a 2nd Season feel not just possible, but absolutely necassary.

Epic, emotionally rich, narratively cohesive, and unpredictable to the bitter end, 'Once' delivers a fantastic penultimate outing for it's freshman season.

'Once' delivers a shocking, subversive answer to a season long mystery, and leaves the audience on a knife edge as the climax of the Season looms.

'Once' keeps up it's astounding momentum, delivering yet another deeply rich backstory, all the while Storybrooke continues to explode with drama.

'Once' delivers the backstory of the Season, deepening and enriching it's villain without forgiving her, and voluntarily blows up it's own modern day story arc for an unforgettable cliffhanger.

'Once' pivots again, delivering an intelligent, subversive, tense take on a whole new world. A phenomenal bottle episode for the ages.

Morally complex, emotionally rich, and narratively tense, 'Once' continues to build momentum, even as one character remains truly unpleasant to watch.

'Once' regains it's subversive bite with a dark and brilliant twist on a classic tale, while delivering a satatus quo shaking twist to Storybrooke.

Despite the central storyline taking a backseat this episode, a charming love story and sweet resolutions make it an enjoyable, if at times unengaging, watch.

While some development for previously one note characters is always welcome, This episode threatens to push a main character so far into flaw he becomes genuinely unlikeable, making it hard to watch.

An emotionally stunning episode, that sadly fails to slot neatly into the shows overarching mythology. Raising questions the show never again adresses.

While 'Once' continues to deliver one clever subversive flashback after another, A storytelling need to isolate Emma threatens to topple her into incompetence.

'Once' gets it's central romance back on track with a brilliant flashback expansion, but fails to make Storybrooke feel as necassary or engaging.

Similar to 'The Shepherd' before it, some fun 'Once' style twists, and the always welcome presence of Lana parrilla's Evil Queen, can't help this episode feeling more like a stall than a necassary stop.

'Once' enters it's Winter run by bringing its most complex character into the fore ground, mixing a fantastically original backstory with some juicy political battles in Storybrooke.

'Once' ends the Mid-Season on a high, delivering jaw dropping reveals, dasterdly villainy, and a heart crushing climax.

While a clever twist and fun machinations give this episode some classic 'Once' charm, a slow pace and need to drag out the central romance leaves me slightly groaning more than sobbing.

'Once' delivers an emotionally rich backstory and dramatically rich present, proving as captivating as ever. Even as some logic is sacraficed for a heart string.

While this episodes more stand-alone nature may slow the series' pacing, a clever twist on a tale as old as time and some much needed character depth keeps the show in top form.

Once Upon a Time rightfully slows down, delivering a genuinely charming, modern twist on the Snow White Fairytale, creating a strong, if slightly slower third outing.

The series keeps up it's Pilot momentum by pivoting immediately to its most fascinating character, Regina Mills. And in doing so, produces the perfect distillation of why this shows adaptations are so captivating.

Clever, subversive, well acted, well written, original, and captivating. It truly is hard to find something truly wrong with this episode. One of the finest Pilots I've ever seen, and it left me scrambling for more.

A return to form, Eventually. Series 3starts off admittadly middling, but hits a superbly strong stride mid-way through. The dynamic between Tennant & Agyemenis good, though overshadowed by the Doctor's wallowing. Series 3 makes the show darker and gritter, while maintaining the whimsy of Series 1 & 2, leading to a more consistent, and still highly engaging, experience.

A strong but ultimately bi-polar mixed back. Series 2 hits atronomical hieghts when it comes to storytelling and characters, but also dips down far lower than Series 1 ever did. While the dyhnamic between the new main due remains great (if slightly grating at times), and David Tennant is a pure delight, the whiplash of quality between the best and worst Series 2 has to offer does need addressing. Leading to a still firmly entertaining, if not as tightly held together 2nd Season.

A very strong start. With a great dynamic between the main due, fun and engaging storytelling, deep developed characters, and (mostly) legitimately threatening and fun villains. Series 1 doesn't always hit the mark, via storytelling nor admittadly poorly aged effects, but is consistently engaging, entertaining. And, above all, a whole lot of fun.
