Two of js went to see this movie, and two of us enjoyed it. Elizabeth Moss is terrific as an abused wife who plans and executes her escape from her abusive husband. Just when she thinks her troubles are over, she finds out they are not. Loved the way things built up over the course of a tight timeframe. Of course, it is frustrating when no one will believe her. A couple of scenes where I had to cover my eyes. But, overall, great suspense, a talented leading lady and a good supporting cast. Very engrossing!
I went to see “Stuber” with 12 other ladies. We all loved it! Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani have a wonderful chemistry as a cop who commandeers an Uber driver and his car. Vic (the cop, Bautista) is chasing the guy who killed someone dear to him. Stu (Nanjiani the Uber driver) gets drawn in to a series of crazy confrontations with criminal elements. There are some funny moments along the way and the movie is lots of fun to watch. Stu starts to get his man pants on as the night moves along and eventually finds creative ways to give Vic a hand vanquishing the bad guys. I really enjoyed this movie! It is fun, fast paced, the leads are great together. Loved it.
My husband and I saw this movie and thoroughly enjoyed it! It is amazing how writers come up with scenarios for movies, and this one is quite unique. Jack Malik (played perfectly by Himish Patel) is a struggling musician. During a world wide 12-second blackout, he is hit by a bus in the total darkness. Afterward, he discovers, much to his amazement, that no one else in the world remembers the Beatles! What? How can this be? He tries desperately to remember all the word to their songs, and begins passing them off as his own. Eventually, he ends up on the radar of a big star in the music industry, and life starts to get very complicated. Lily James is always lovely, and here she plays his manager and good friend. As the movie goes along, there is a running gag that is so much fun. Look for the last thread as the movie ends. Very fun! Also, there is a sweet surprise in the latter part of the film that moved me so much. This is a sweet, fun movie that, for some reason, made me see so much clearer just how great those songs by the Beatles are. So much more so than when hearing them on the radio! Go see it! I can’t “Imagine” you won’t enjoy it!
Welcome to the Warrens’ House of Horrors! A young woman unleashes a host of evil on the house and we get to spend the night with our heroines as they try to survive the unleashed evil. Great story and lots of fun to watch. My big question is why don’t they turn on the lights! I may have missed something having to do with that... Some very suspenseful moments!
I really looked forward to seeing this movie and really wanted to love it. Unfortunately, I did not love it. Can’t say exactly why. But, it just felt so over the top at times and unrealistic. I loved the relationship between the two girls. Loved their chemistry, but felt a lot of the movie didn’t ring true for me. It was very raunchy in parts and the kids behavior was so stereotypical in places, it was painful to watch. Just didn’t ring true with me.
Friends and I enjoyed this movie. Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson are fun to watch as two very different ladies who hustle rich men by various means, often involving outlandish stories or machinations. The two actresses play nicely off one another. A remake of “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” it changes things up just enough to make it fresh. At some point the women meet and realize they are rivals in the local con game. After things go awry, they team up for a con, although they are both trying to con the other out of getting anything out of this particular guy. Not a fabulous movie to gush over, for sure. But, for a fun time at the movies, it is a good choice.
My friends and i thought this was a decent movie! Dennis Quaid plays against type as a totally creepy man who has many secrets and attaches himself to a sweet couple who buy his house. Annie falls in love with this huge home nestled in the woods and sees Charlie (Quaid) as a lonely man who has lost his wife and home. She gives him the benefit of the doubt each time he shows up inappropriately. Her husband Scott isn’t so sure about him. Charlie plays an increasingly big part in their lives as he inserts himself into Annie’s heart. But, is he friend or foe? Very good story.
When you have to use a loud truck going by as a scare in a movie, your movie might be in trouble. Saw this with a couple of friends, and none of us thiught this was a good movie. It is not scary and some of it is just hard to watch. We all spent a lot of time with our hands over our eyes. In the end, it just becomes a gore fest. Not worth the time or money, in our opinion.
My friend and I loved this movie! Isabelle Huppert is great as the sweet, caring, psycho Greta. Chloe Grace Moretz is also wonderful as sweet Frankie, a young innocent not used to city ways. When she finds a purse on the commuter train, her first instinct is to return it to its owner. Roommate Erica (Maika Monroe) says no New Yorker would touch that bag, it could be a bomb! But, Frankie meets Greta and they each find the mother and the daughter they are looking for. Such a sweet story. They were meant to find each other. Nothing creepy here, folks. Yet. One night, Frankie comes for dinner and makes an alarming discovery in a cabinet in the dining room. We are right there with her when she sees it. Uh oh. Our hearts begin to race. Get out of there! She does get out of there, but this sweet story is just getting started. Once the train leaves the station, it goes at breakneck speed to Crazy Town. You want to get off, but you can’t. I see Greta as the new Freddie.
A friend and I went to see this movie and we thought it was very good. We see pretty much every scary movie that comes out, and we have seen some bad ones, This one was a good one. Not looking at it as a movie critic, but just as an audience member wanting to be entertained, it did just that. We thought we had a few things predicted, but we were wrong. If you are a fan of scary/creepy movies, you should enjoy this one.
I have seen all of M. Night’s movies, good and bad. For me, this one falls somewhere in the middle. I did not enjoy this movie and had a pretty hard time figuring out what was going on. I thought it was very confounding and often just kind of stupid. For those of you who really liked it, I am happy for you, because I really wanted to like it too. Unfortunately, I just came away feeling very disappointed. So much of it didn’t make any sense to me.
This is an enjoyable and entertaining movie. It is not “The Intouchables” by any stretch! But, it is done well, and Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart have a sweet chemistry that I enjoyed. If you have never seen the French made original, which starred Omar Sy in Hart’s role, it is worth trying to find a way to watch it. I did appreciate this version, and I think for anyone who has never seen the original, it will be very entertaining.
I eagerly anticipated this movie for months after seeing the first trailer. Now that I’ve seen it, I can tell you that all the laughs are in the trailer. Lopez plays Maya, a woman whose godson tweaks ner resume so that it sounds fantastic enough to get this high school dropout a junior executive level job in a big company. Once Maya has the job, she uses her experience as an assistant manager of a Walmart type store. She does know her products and what her clients want. So far, so good. But, about half way through, there is an utterly preposterous “twist” that nobody could bave seen coming in a million years because it is so ridiculous. At that point, I kind of mentally threw up my hands and said, “Seriously!?!?” From then on, I kind of lost interest in the story. Leah Remini as Maya’s best friend is very fun to watch and adds lots of laughs. Also Charlyne Yi as a crazy co-worker also adds to the laughs. I so wanted to love this movie, but it wasn’t nearly as funny as the trailer would lead you to believe, and the whole product development plot was not amusing. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you are a die hard J’Lo fan, in which case, you’re going to see it anyway! As I would!
Such a fabulous movie! Mahershala Ali as Dr. Don Shirley, and Viggo Mortensen, as Tony Vallelago, are amazing as a concert pianist and his personal assistant/driver touring in the deep south just before passage of the Civil Rights Act. Two more mismatched humans would be hard to find. Tony has his own prejudice to overcome and it happens as he watches how Doc is treated with both respect and as a much lesser being. He becomes increasingly protective of Doc and doesn’t understand his ability to treat those who disrespect him with such respect. The growing brotherhood between the two men is a wondrous thing to watch. Tony becomes a much better person through his association with Doc. Very serious subject, but told with such humor and humanity. Absolutely loved it!
I did not enjoy this movie. First of all, it is soooo long! It takes forever to get anywhere and the violence in it was just too much for me. I do not mind violence if it is directed at the bad guys. Heck, I will jump in and help bring them down! But, this was just too much. I thought this movie got bogged down in the political machinations and took too much away from the women in the story. There were big holes in the plot that even a few twists a d turns couldn’t save. It just was not good for me. Even a great cast cannot save it.
I loved this movie! It is sweet, funny, frustrating and heartwarming. Rose Byrne and Mark Wahlberg are great as Ellie and Pete, a happily married couple who renovate and flip houses. But, something is missing from their lives. They decide to go to an adoption event and see what it is all about. The story goes from there and we follow them through the fostering process and see all the pitfalls and difficulties they experience. It is predictable and often too pat, but it is still fun to watch. We all four enjoyed it very much.
I love Lisbeth salander! She is extremely smart, resourceful and mentally and physically strong. In this latest installment of the franchise, she must stay on her toes in order to stay alive and keep those she cares about from harm. Some of her feats are a bit hard to believe. The timing of a couple of her rescues and all the pieces that ust fall into place are not wholly believable. But, if you like strong women characters and fast paced action, this is a great film for you. I enjoyed it and was completely entertained.
This is one of those quiet little movies that don’t get a whole lot of buzz. But, it is charming and a lovely story. Emily Mortimer plays a young woan who has been left a widow. She returns to the place she grew up to open a bookshop. She faces steep opposition from one of the vilage’s most influential (wealthy) women, played by Patricia Clarkson. But, she finds a champion in a wealthy recluse, a wonderful turn by Bill Nighy. After her shop is set up and running, she hires a young local girl to help out. Mortimer and this girl form a sweet bond. With all the opposition to her shop, Mortimer must try to carry on. The story is about her tenacity and the bonds she forges with some of the people sne meets along the way.
I loved this movie! Freddie Mercury was a unique and fascinating person with a talent for innovation In music. Rami Malek is superb as Mercury and I thought the story was so interesting. Loved nearing the music of Queen and learning the backstory of how the group came to be and how it evolved into being one of the biggest groups of its time. The supporting cast was all terrific and I really enjoyed this movie. JUSt wish it didn’t have to end the way it had to. Heartbreaking.
This is a really creepy movie! I wanted to leave the theater to get popcorn, but wanted to wait until things slowed down. They never did! The action takes place in an old convent in romania that has been pretty much deserted for a long time. A new nun and a priest are sent there to find out what has been going on. A young nun has hung herself and they want to find out why. Things get creepy right away. I thought this was a really good movie and think the pace was right on.
I really enjoyed this movie! It is rather unsung, but so charming and delightful. It is about three middle aged people who can’t seem to get their act together. Rose Byrne is Annie. She has been with her boring boyfriend for 15 years, but it seems there has never been a big reason to move on. Chris O’Dowd is Duncan, the boyfriend, who is obsessed with a former rock star who disappeared years ago into obscurity. He hosts an internet band of groupies who talk and speculate endlessly upon various aspects of Trevor Crowe’s works and his personal life. Ethan Hawke is Crowe, a man who had a lot going for himself in his younger days, but gave it all up. Duncan’s latest blather about Crowe’s masterpiece of work, an album titled “Juliet, Naked,” draws much chatter from his obsessed fan friends. However, one lone voice of dissent draws an unexpected response and sets the movie’s storyline on its eventual trajectory. This movie is sweet and often laugh out loud funny. It is character driven and all three characters are beautifully played by these three wonderful actors. We all loved it and recommend it!
This is a remake of the 1973 movie that starred Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. I thought i remembered liking that movie, but I am not so sure now. In this new version, Charlie Hunnam plays the title character and Rami Malek plays Degas. They both do a great job of portraying their characters, and you will find that you really care about them. But, the movie is so dark, humorless and relentlessly depressing, that it is difficult to sit through. I kept wishing I was watching it on DVD so I could fast forward through some of it. Because it is so dark, I would not recommend it. But, if you really want to see it, wait until it comes out on DVD so you have the option of fast forwarding or walking away from it. Plus it is way too long. There were at least a few places that the movie could have been edited much better to save time.
This movie was fun! I enjoyed every minute and Mila Kunis and Kate mcKinnon are great as two ordinary, very innocent ladies who get thrown into a spy feeding frenzy when a boyfriend gives one of the ladies an object that all the spy agencies in the world are after. As Audrey and Morgan, they are subjected to all kinds of danger and come through in hilarious fashion. McKinnon especially is so fun to watch as she hams it up as the crazier one of the teo. Especially loved a Cirque type performamce McKinnon ends up involved in. Lots of car chases, close fighting and close calls. I thought the laughs were right on and I loved the chemistry between the two and their bond in the film. Great fun with lady spies for a change. I too will be hoping for a sequel!
This is such an enjoyable movie, all the music and dancing is great fun to watch. Amanda Seyfried and Lily James are so perfect as the leading ladies. The cast is great and there just isn’t anything negative to say about it. if you want to have some good fun, go see it. Meryl Streep is not in this film, just FYI.
This is a very good action movie. I am not completely certain i understand the plot, but that is often true for me. DW plays McCall, a super smart, sorta psychic guy who knows what moves the bad guys are going to make before they even know. He is so great as the Equalizer, and the supporting cast is up to the challenge. Melissa Leo, Bill Pullman and Pedro Pascal are equally good in their respective roles. I love watching the hand to hand fighting and also watching McCall as he gives the bad guys time to think they have the drop on him. Very entertaining and fun. Violent, of course. But so engrossing.
Wonderful tribute to Fred Rogers, a champion for children everywhere. Very well done. It is hard not to tear up during some of his more memorable shows which dealt with topics like assasination, divorce, death, and so many more. This documentary shows how he really did love people and was not judgmental. Really loved it.
I really enjoyed this movie! The action starts right out of the gate and doesn’t stop. The island is getting ready to blow its top, thanks to a very angry volcano. John Hammond’s former partner has a plan to relocate all the dinos to a beautiful islamd where they can love out their lives in peace. So, they need to be rescued. As Owen says when he is asked to come along and save Blue, “What could go wrong?” Um, everything? And, of course, things start their downhill slide from there. However, the rescue is not all it’s cracked up to be, as Claire and Owen soon find out. Once the dinos leave the island, a new plan is revealed and the chaos moves to a new location. There are big teeth and big screams. Thrilling and heart stopping at times. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride!
I really enjoyed this movie! It is lots of fun and even though I have never heard of Eugenio Derbez - and was totally disappointed that they hadn’t cast someone I really liked - he ended up growing on me. Switching the roles was brilliant and Derbez played the part of a horrible rich boy so well. You just want to smack him. Ana Faris as the poor Mom/student was less effective, but still okay. The movie has some really funny moments and some good gags, i watched the original Overboard with goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell and found it to be much ess satisfying than this new updated version. If you just want to nave a good, fun time at the movies, this is a great choice.
I was so taken with the level of sophistication of this “horror” movie a d its excellent cast. The story proceeds with good speed and there are a couple of shockers thrown in here and there. It was going along jjst great, I thought, and I was caught up in the story and what was happening. However, I just have to say, that despite the foreshadowing, the last 15 minutes or so just kind of blew the whole thing for me. I thought it just seemed to go right off the rails. Of those seeing it with me, we were probably divided 50/50 on being okay with the ending and not liking it. So you have to see it and determine for yourself what you think. It is a very well done movie and I understand people’s calls for Collette to be awarded for her performance.
I really enjoyed this movie and found all the cast members to be very fun to watch. Some of the people I saw the movie with thought it was kind of slow at the beginning. That didn’t bother me at all. I found all the planning and attention to detail to be pretty interesting. And, once the plan was in motion, I was very caught up in it. Very entertaining and enjoyable.
I thought this was a very good and well made film. Gabrielle Union is good as a Mom trying to protect her children from some psychos who are after millions of dollars in a safe in her father’s home. Ner father has been killed and now she has gone to his weekend home/mansion to meet a realtor and out it on the market. She and Dad never got along. Some elements are kind of contrived, for sure. But, there is certainly enough suspense and tension to keep an audience entertained. Billy Burke is effective as the head honcho of thieves and Richard Cabral is very creepy as a psycho partner in crime. And, yes, it’s not anything new and the story is similar to others, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the ride. We sure did.
What a fun movie! I went with lots of ladies and we found the theater jam packed full. It is one laugh after another in a very steady stream. Jane Fonda, Candace Bergen, Mary Steenburgen and Diane Keaton are absolutely perfect and funny as four older ladies who find that reading “Fifty Shades of Gray” has kickstarted their love lives. Each one of the men is wonderful in their role: Don Johnson, Andy Garcia, Craig T. Nelson and Richard Dreyfuss. There are some hilarious one liners and sight gags, especially with Nelson’s character as his wife tries to spice things up a bit. So much fun and fortunately, the trailer didn’t give it all away. Plenty more laughs to be had. Loved it!
I saw this with a bunch of ladies and we all really enjoyed it. A sweet look at being a mother, giving up your dreams and then finding them again after your jerk of a husband dumps you. Lots of fun along the way as McCarthy and her daughter become college Seniors together. Everybody learns a different truth from others. Many funny moments and one crazy twist that had the audience screaming. Very enjoyable without all the over the top silly/stupid/raunchy stuff that is often throughout McCarthy’s movies.
This is a really good, really suspenseful movie! I found myself on the edge of my seat much of the time. The cast is terrific and the story doesn’t take long to get going. It is a bit brutal at times and I did have to cover my eyes once or twice. But, the plot picks up a good head of steam and you find yourself talking to the people up on the screen, trying to get their attention! If you like on the edge suspense, this is the movie for you.
This is a good movie! It is NOT typical of Amy Schumer. The plot is fun and there is no raunch factor! My friends and I loved it! There is a great message in this film and it is presented in the plot/story in a really cute way. It is definitely more of a chick flick, although I guess guys could enjoy it too. But, the message of loving yourself and who you are brings confidence is one the vast majoriy of women will understand. Amy is adorable as Renee, a woman who undergoes a transformation under unusual circumstances, and plays the part very sweetly. Loved her “boyfriend” played by Rory Scovel. Michelle Williams is almost unrecognizable as Avery, a cosmetics tycoon with a teeny, tiny voice, She believes in Renee and they each give the other the confidence they need.
This is a really good movie. Not only is it unusual, it is suspensful and cover your eyes scary at times. The cast is wonderful and portrays so many emotions with just their facial expressions because not only is a family member deaf, the enemy has exceptional hearing and talking or other noise will draw them to you. But, they are a normal family and you are drawn to them and care about them. Very different and unusual movie.
My husband and I just saw this movie. We both enjoyed the movie because it has a great story to tell. Bruce Willis is very good as the man who takes the law into his own hands. We are all rooting for him and there was serious cheering going on when the bad guys were getting their just desserts. If you enjoy seeing that, you will definitely emjoy this movie.
Alicia Vikander, Oscar winner, stars as Lara Croft who goes to a island off the coast of Japan, following the clues left by her father. He has been gone, and presumed dead, for seven years after going to try to find the hidden tomb of an evil queen. Lots of action and adventure follows as Lara follows the clues and finds herself in peril time and again. The movie is not bad. My main complaint is that Lara seems more like a super hero, constantly using physical strength, luck her intelligence to get out of life threatening situations. It doesn’t matter if she is falling off a cliff, falling into a raging river, pulling herself up with one arm. She never gets more than a scratch. It was a little much, in my opinion. However, I did enjoy the movie and the adventure.
For the most part, this was a pretty good movie. Loved the scary parts and the story is very intriguing. I was totally feeling it all the way until the end when I just got a bit lost. Still not completely sure what exactly was going on or exactly what happened at the end, but it was a bit out there for me. I thought the first at least 45 minutes were kind of slow for me. I just wanted the story to get going. Once it did get going, it was very engrossing and I was really along for the ride. It just kind of left me in the dust in the end.
This is a very fun movie. Lots of great laughs and a great cast. Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams are perfect as suburbanites who get together with friends on a regular basis to play games. They are both very competitive and Bateman’s character gets stressed out when his brother comes to town. Always competing with each other, Kyle Chandler is perfect as the jerky brother who takes every opportunity to put down his little brother. He hijacks their game night and thus begins a chain of crazy events that twist and turn and provide lots of laughs.
I enjoyed this movie, but probably expected to really love it. For sure, it is quite weird, which is fine with me. After all, I loved “Swiss Army Man”... But, for some reason, this movie did not resonate with me and I don’t know why. The performances were all perfectly done and the story is a good one. But, there is just a “but”. Maybe I was hoping too much for a remake of “The Creature From the Black Lagoon” because I had heard the someone was doing a remake of it. Then I saw the previews and got excited about seeing it until I learned it was a “romance”. Oh well, it is a very good movie. But, compared to “Three Billboards”, which is a WOW movie, “The Shape of Water” is just another good movie.
This movie was not at all what I expected. It was so much better! I really enjoyed the way it was presented with different characters telling their stories. All of the characters are doppelgängers for their real counterparts. I learned quite a lot that I did not know about the whole sordid Tonya Harding story. If the movie is to be believed, the story is quite different than the story I thought was true. All of the performances are strong and Allison Janney is appropriately creepy and crazy as Tonya’s horrible, abusive mother. The backstory is quite riveting and I was glued to the screen. Ever a dull moment. An excellemt movie!
I was very curious about this film and went to see it because of all the nominations it was getting. It was nicely done, but for me, it was way too long and a case of too much information at times. Loved Armie Hammer and Timothy. Both did a wonderful job. But, for me, it was not a great film. I think about 30 minjtes could have been cut without damaging the story.
This movie is hard to describe. The premise is certainly interesting: miniaturizing people to save the planet. The first part of the movie is about the discovery of the process and the eventual selling of the concept as we see Paul (Matt Damon) and wife Audrey getting the sales pitch for Leisure World, the place tou can live in a tiny mansion for a tiny amount of money. The next thing we see is Paul’s life in Leisure World and meet his obnoxious neighbor played by Christoph Waltz. At this point, the movie takes a left turn and becomes a whole different movie. And, we meet a Vetnamese woman (Hong Chau) who becomes an important character. There is het another plot twist before the end. At this point, it begins to sound like a ride at Epcot. Preachy and like a hippie love fest. It sort of lost me sometime around this part. It is entertaining, but not entirely enjoyable. It is too unfocused for my taste.
This is a good movie, but for some reason, it left me a little cold. I do not know if it is because I don’t have a daughter or if I just didn’t care enough for the characters. It could also have been because my expectations were so high based upon all the reviews. Anyway, I enjoyed it and wasn’t bored and that is good. But, other than that, it was just okay for me.
This is a really bad movie. Even Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones can’t save this mess. It is stupid in a bad way. Not funny at all. I did not laugh even one time. The women in the movie are merely sex objexts (if you can call women of a certain age sex objects). The plot, such as it is, is soooo thn it is barely there. This movie did not entertain us and I really would recommend you save your money.
Plain and simple, this movie is a “Wow!” Go see it. Intricately interwoven stories come together in Ebbing, Missouri when a mother torn apart by grief decides to call out the local police chief for not finding her daughter’s killer. She does this on three billboards that startle the townspeople. This starts an avalanche of huge proportions that affects the lives of the major characters. It is exquisite and surpringly funny at times. A real masterpiece.
This is a very fun movie. It could have been called A Dads’ Christmas because it is all about dads. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg star as two dads who share custody of Wahlberg’s two kids. But, these dads are really good friends. They decide to have a “together Christmas” so the kids don’t have to be shuttled back and forth between the two families. And, their fathers will be joining them all for Christmas. Mel Gibson plays Wahlberg’s macho man father while John Lithgow plays Ferrell’s oh so sensitive man father. Both fathers are fun to watch. Gibson is good at tearing down everything Wahlberg does. Lithgow, meanwhile, is always so proud of Ferrell. And, of course, things can’t go smoothly. Even when the two Dads are trying their hardest. I really had fun watching the antics of all the dads amd fathers as they try to navigate through the personalities and insecurities among them. Of course, there are times it is silly and stupid, but overall, I think it is lots of fun. And that is why you go see a movie like this. People are too hard on these kinds of films. They aren’t out to impress you or gain Oscar nominations, folks. They are made to make you laugh. And this one did!
