Dead Island8
Sep 20, 2011
Don't believe the people who strike this game down for all the "bugs". In my experience the game is no where near as broken as people say it is. I believe in "don't shoot the messenger" in this situation. The game is good and the developer is working hard to fix the issues that are arising. Yes it's inexcusable that the game was shipped in such a poor state but that's the developer's fault and not the game's. Dead island is a fun and satisfying co-op rpg with some very unique elements to it that make it distinct. If I have any issues it's that guns feel weak and the game suffers similar balance problems to borderlands in that enemies become either too easy or too difficult in the higher levels. Though the game looks pretty in pictures it doesn't stand up as well when in motion. There's simply nothing eye catching about it's visuals. It creates what it set out to create well but the end result simply can't hold up against other recent games that feature tropical environments. Though I do recommend dead island Id'e say to wait maybe a month or so for bug fixes but be sure that dead island is good fun and doesn't deserve the hatred allot of people have for it.

Sanctum (2011)5
Jul 8, 2011
Sanctum is like a game engineered for me to like it. Ive always liked tower defense and fps so a marriage of the two would likely win a ticket straight to my heart. Sadly despite the original premise and interesting visual style the game quickly becomes boring with little deviation in terms of strategy with the common phrase being: "build what you need". This can easily be fun with a couple friends but if you don't know anybody who plays the game then your decision is going to be based entirely on your liking for the premise.

Painkiller: Redemption10
Jul 8, 2011
To be honest this was the first game in the painkiler franchise that I played. "oh good" I thought, I can finally see what all the fuss is about. The game is gory, fast paced, the weapons are imaginative, the levels are diverse, and the the enemies are relentless. So why does it bore me? though there are plenty of weapons and all of them with secondary fire but they're all introduced at the start and are almost identical between the two characters that you play as aside from a few. There are allot of enemies but they suffer from the rpg-issue of being reskined. There are a few enemies with special abilities but since you literally kill thousands of enemies every level you will already have them smeared across a nearby wall before they can become a real threat. The arena-like progression almost seems like a rule in the level design. They try to mix it up but every area that you fight enemies in will be in some kind of boring and wide open space. I only recommend painkiller redemption if your a hardcore fan of the series and I don't represent fans but I can't help but feel like even they might be tired of the series since there's four other expansion packs already.

Nation Red7
Jul 8, 2011
Nation red is like a fire work. It's fun and exciting while it lasts but once it's over it's over. It's gory good fun especially with friends but there's nothing to keep you coming back despite all the game modes and it will easily become of of those games that you like but only ever play it when your friends want to. Ten dollars almost seems a bit steep if you want every penny to count now a days but if you just want to have fun then nation red is a good choice.

King Arthur: The Role-Playing Wargame8
Jul 8, 2011
King Arthur has an appealing mix of rpg elements, management, and total war-style combat. There's plenty of elements to keep you interested until the end and maybe the extra campaign dlc. There are some issues though. Even on the beginner setting the difficulty sky rockets about half way through and makes for a daunting thing to see some of the enemy armies vastly overpower you in both statistics and in battle. This might go with the rpg style of the game and it would be fine of there weren't any time limits to some of the quests and if enemies stayed put rather than continue to poke at your under-powered units or take over your land. This makes for a game that will definitely be better suited to the people with some experience with rts as the sense of urgency later on combined with the difficulty will either make for a thrilling or frustrating game. But despite all this it's satisfying to gather your knights of the round table and watch them develop along with your army and dominate the land as either a rightful king or a tyrant as well as either a believer of "the old faith" or a christian. If you can get past some of the difficult aspects of the game you'll get something that is not only unique but compelling and fun as well.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings7
Jul 3, 2011
As much as I hate saying it the witcher 2 is good in the way of being a work of art than a game. The game almost seems to hate being a game. The gameplay almost feels like padding imbetween the witcher's set pieces and political intrigue. It's extremely difficult even on the normal settings. Some people say that it's difficult in a good way. It makes you use everything at your disposal and to think on the fly in order to succeed. To a point this may be true but this is best in a game that doesn't focus so much on it's story. So getting stuck in this game is like watching an awesome movie and it keeps freezing in the same places so you have to **** the dvd player and hope that you can get past that part in order to get back into the story. The big reason why the game is so difficult is because the game plays like assassin's creed but if the camera didn't pan out to give you a better sense of the battlefield, and if enemies all ganged up on you at once. Again some people like this since it makes more sense for gangs of enemies to actually gang up on you. But again this would be fine if enemies didn't juggle you hulk--style uncontrollably. Allot of these issues are relieved in easy mode (predictably) but the problem still remains. The game looks beutifull. At least that's what I got from trailers and screen shots. If I try to play the game on high settings I'm afraid my pc will suffer a heart attack. To go along with the story the game has a really good atmosphere with peopel acually doing things unlike obvivion where it's like watching a dog doing house hold chores. The game appeals to my liking of game boxes having extra "stuff" in theme. The standard game might as well be a special edition. Along with a sleeve cover to hold it all the box contains the basic game, a neat letter with a short story in it, a walkthrough ( nearly useless with game faqs) the soundtrack , a paper craft figure, and a bonus features disk . If you can get past these big problems then you'll get a game that you will have a good time with but as it stands if you prefer a game that is more pure in how it fits into int's genre you might want to look elsewhere.

Killing Floor10
Jul 3, 2011
Killing floor seems to be a game that people will either love or hate. They might love it for the simple and gory action that never lets up. Others will hate the simple graphics and repetitive gameplay. I want to address some of the things people have been condemning this game over. First is the graphics. In a nut shell: I don't see what people are whining over. The game looks fine enough and does a good job of achieving the atmosphere it seeks to create. Next is the repetitive gameplay. I don't understand why people are hating the game for this reason. I keep hearing it being compared to left 4 dead and in my opinion it's just as repetitive as killing floor. I guess it's because they it's 1.a valve game, and 2. they wave around their AI director like a victory flag. Killing floor also has persistent progression with perks that level up as you complete their requirements, and a large arsenal of weapons that is far more varied than left 4 dead's. Other people have criticized the AI. What do you expect from drooling mutants in killing frenzies? They do their job and nothing less. Of course this is all rendered stupid form the start considering that the game costs twenty bucks. For this along with the free updates sure to come I don't see why this isn't a good dead and at the same time I don't see how anybody could expects more. I don't hate left 4 dead but comparing it to killing floor just because they both have co-op and zombies is unfair. If you like quick and gory good fun and have friends to play with then I recommend killing floor.
