Splitting the collection in two was greedy. There are some other bad decisions they made, that is easily found on reddit for hard core mega man fans. Other than that, I'm actually still satisfied with it. Hence the high score.
The only redeeming quality this game has is style. A lot of this style is carried forward into the Kingdom Hearts games. Other than that, it has no substance. The gameplay is a clunky Virtua Fighter mess. It is honestly embarrassing and there isn't that much gameplay. It can be beated in under 2 hours.
These is Yugioh's own take on how a rpg tactics game should be done. But for me, it just doesn't compare to any legit tactics game like FFT, Xcom, and Fire Emblem. Yugioh is just better at being played as a card game. That is where it should stay.
The OG from the ps1 is still better, which is like 8 stars out of 10. The final mission is one of the best to do in that game. However this PS2 remake is just terrible, the only thing it does better is having better graphics.
You have to be a anime fan of the series, or there is no way to enjoy this. The Armored Core PS1 games completely outclass this, I'm not even bringing in the PS2 AC games. That is how bad Eureka Seven plays.
Rogue Ops is basically Splinter Cell with Lara Croft as the lead instead. Definitely wasn't a bad game, there were just better stealth games out there. Especially when you factor in Metal Gear Solid or Tenchu.
Game design and game play is definitely dated and it didn't age well at all, you would probably be better off playing something like Remember Me. However, the art direction and music was amazing, you could tell they put a lot of love into this game. It is worth buying for that alone.
If this was in a physical arcade, right next to Godzilla VR, then this would go hard. But it is no fun playing at home with your own small scale vr set from the ps4.
Just play Hades I or Hades II, you would get a better gameplay experience. But to be fair, this game could be a hidden gem, if it just copied Hades and reskined it with the Crimson Tears aesthetics. That is the only thing I really liked about it, was the art design.
One thing that did rub me the wrong way about this game, was the predatory dlc. Also, you can only play with the stylus. It later fixes this in future games. But I did enjoy playing my favorite final fantasy songs. It also came with a cool stylus during release. Really a 5 star game, but I give it a extra point for the cool stylus.
What drew me in to this game, wasn't the gameplay and its mechanics. But the amazing color pallette, art direction, music, and it was made by the same team that made the handheld games for Kingdom Hearts. I couldn't get into the gameplay, which is the main reason why I play a game, but all of its' other attributes were still amazing. So a 6 star seems fair to me.
I was expecting to play a arcade flight simulator. But it leaned towards more of realistic flight simulator as possible. Which for me took a way some of the fun. Beautiful graphics and high production quality though.
Another live service game that nobody can't play anymore. They should have just made a offline mode. Had a lot of predatory monetization practices though. Graphics and play system was decent, was like a update of the psp port. Could have been easily a 6 or 7 star game.
PSP's own take on Katamari and Monkey Ball. If you are into those games, you will be into this one. Other than that, it is a easy pass for everyone else.
The best way to play FF4. The 3d remakes and Pixel Remasters don't include all of the content like interlude. Even though it would be nice to have the ease of life changes like autobattle/autoattack. Also, the game design is definitely old, not as fresh as something like Bravely Default.
This adds nothing new to the turned based jrpg genre. I can play a older final fantasy game and have just as much fun, if not more. I'd rather play Bravely Default or/and Bravely Second. Another big reason for the low score, it was a live service game. You can't play this game anymore, even despite all the money and time players put into it, they could have easily made a offline mode. This alone should make it a 0stars or 1star.
This game reminds me a lot of Megaman Legends. It is way better than the prequel series, but not as good as Legends. It is still worth playing once. Be nice if it got a true triple A sequel. Maybe with more races as supposed to only furries. Also, the music was a banger in this game.
You really have to be a fan of the series to enjoy this. It is just too easy and too laid back. It is the opposite spectrum of hardcore jrpgs who really try to challenge the player. It is very slice of life.
Even today it is very unique, however it didn't age very well. They should make a sequel adding more 4x strategy elements, better FPS controls, and a more powerful engine.
Just another mario party game, with a bunch of other unfun mini games. Nothing unique, nothing special. I can play fun mini games in other main games as well, so I don't know why I would need this. Besides, Super Mario Party Jamboree Switch 2 improves on the formula.
3 games did a fusion dance and created this game. Any game that makes you collect banana/items/rings throughout a platform stage, mario kart, and smash bros. PLUS lots of monkey cuteness. It can range from really easy, to all of a sudden spike in difficulty. At the end of the day, the game design isn't bad, but it isn't going to achieve great levels because I got bored real quick with it.
Some innovative ideas on how to create and get monsters, but it is so low budget and dated. Unfortunately, Monster Rancher couldn't keep up in the pet monster race with Pokemon and Digimon.
tldr; game is bad, just turn this into a anime. The story is great and so is the character designs. But it makes it hard to enjoy, when the combat system is so boring. On top of that, they make you grind like crazy. Was made with a lot of top talent involved, including Platinum Games. If they nailed the combat system, it could have rivaled FF series, StarTrek, Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, Gundam, Heroic Age, Space Battleship Yamamoto, YOU NAME IT!
The concept was interesting, but ultimately it was very gimmicky. You will still get a more fun experience from selecting the specific attack from any modern RPG.
Kingdom Hearts Re:coded aka The Blue Print For Dream Drop Distance. The combat in this was trippy and allowed you to do a lot of cool things, that would just send you flying across the screen, being able to chain multiple abilities. It also had a lot of fun mini games. It essentially turned everything into a puzzle and skill tree as well. The 3 downsides, it definitely feels dated, they reused a lot of assets, and it didn't really add much to the story. Which made every one mad and downvoted this game to hades and back. Especially when everyone was begging for a true sequel to the story. I could understand a 7 or 8 stars, but anything below that was just outrage.
Every other game has improved on this formula. If this was back in the day, then I can see how this could get a 10 out of 10. But the competition is stiff, I could just play Breath of the Wild.
Loved this back in the day, but now in days when I boot it up. It is just annoying. For example, not including a mini map or way finder would have made the game more enjoyable.
Sand of time and Warrior Within just feel old (5 stars out of 10). All the things you can do in Prince of Persia you can do in God of War and the combat is even better in GoW. However Two Thrones really improves on the formula of everything, but once again it faces competition from things like Tenchu or Assassin's Creed. I still enjoyed Two Thrones more than the first 2 within the Trilogy (7 stars out of 10). It was a perfect blend of action, platforming, and combat. When they remake the series, I hope it is more like Two Thrones.
You had 12 years and mean average 3mill fan base to work with (and if you want to base it just on sales, then ranging from lowest of 1mill to max 13mill). And you are telling me you couldn't over haul the pawn system??!! I should be able to at least get one live player to play along with me, while using my main pawn, and a guest pawn from someone else. The pawn system should just be a backup system, we should be able to still play with and against other players live.
When the game first came out, it was great and innovative on how it did boss battles. It also had dark souls levels of difficultly. Of course it wasn't perfect, it had its annoyances in game design such as fast travel and not being able to play with real people.
If I hadn't already played FFXIII to completion. I think I could have enjoyed this game more, and probably give it at least a 7. Its' combat just feel less polished than FF13. However, I do love the cinematics in it, and the effort to revamp everything, and including White Knight Chronicles 1. They even gave the ability for a complete data transfer onto the next game. My last complaint is that the servers are shutdown, making it impossible to finish it. They should have just set up the infracture to allow for the multiplayer aspect to still work offline.
Game is extremely over hyped and the gameplay gets boring really quick. All you do is roll and collect. Point, blank, period. Plenty of good games have collecting in it, but they don't solely focus EXCLUSIVELY/ONLY on collecting and completely avoid everything else. In Pokemon you collect Pokemon, but you also battle, garden, level up, adventure, etc . . .
This seems really lazy. You can just play Catherine on steam, ps3, or/and switch and get the exact same experience. With the added benefit of music, beautiful graphics/arts, storyline, etc . . .
Really dated, but not terrible. We are just in need of a full sequel. The DS hardware really constrains of what the game devs want to do, the artwork isn't even that pretty either because of that.
Suikoden did it better, when it came to massive story arcs going over multiple games and a better selection of characters with mini games and war games.
Terrible online implementation, and changed the game aesthetics because game devs were scared of ruffling feathers. It is one of the reason why they never released the recent Extreme Beach game in the states. But the biggest downfall of all, is milking the game with microtransactions to the point you need 600 to 1k just to buy everything. On top of that, it is pretty old, we need a DOA 7 or a reboot.
It is fun, yet gimmicky. What gets me the most, if they removed the motion gimmicks and just let you play it with controller old school method. It probably would be more fun.
