What a mess. The characters are insipid and just plain annoying. The only one with a degree of believability is the French mother to the lead ballerina. The lead ballerina could use a good **** slap. She’s not even that good a dancer.

I was enjoying the Palladino's new series It has what you'd expect from the creators of "Gilmore Girls": frenetic dialogue, pop references, and comically absurd situations. But now it's cancelled. Shame on you, Amazon.

Etoile is best when the dancers dance and the story (or what passes for one) gets set aside and off-camera. There is a phony energy, an overdrive that reinforces the perception that artists and managers are shallow, snivelling dopes. And while there maybe some truth to that notion, it doesn't pass muster as entertainment. The show is exhausting and feels much longer than its actual running time. That was episode 1 -- hoping that the cliches soon fade and that there can be something to begin matching the ballet, which is the centrepiece of the series.

Amy Sherman-Palladino & Daniel Palladino created this series about two ballet companies, one if NYC and one in Paris. In an attempt to boost sagging interest, they decide to exchange star dancers and choreographers. Unlike their previous series (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Gilmore Girls”) this one minimizes the comedy for more drama. There are continual conflicts between dancers, choreographers and administrators. Many of the characters aren’t especially likeable. Two leads in particular: Luke Kirby, as the New York ballet director and Lou de Laâge, as the star dancer. Simon Callow, as the rich supporter, is the series’ most entertaining personality, while Charlotte Gainsbourg, as the head of the French ballet, is often surprisingly funny. Otherwise, there are lots of neurotic personalities. As for dancing, there are plenty of rehearsal scenes and some final performances, all of which are lovely (there was some use of doubles for the lead dancers). The creators have added their signature surprise moments, some enjoyably fun encounters and a few grand spectacles, but there’s much more drama, some of which becomes a bit tiresome. Even so, there’s plenty to enjoy in this lively series.

A little too chaotic sometimes, pacing issues. The actress and plot for Mishi are terrible and boring.

Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino's latest creation, Étoile, is a masterstroke that seamlessly blends the rigor of ballet with the intricacies of human relationships. Set against the vibrant backdrops of New York and Paris, the series offers a compelling narrative that resonates deeply with both art enthusiasts and general audiences.

Visually, Étoile is absolutely beautiful. Luke Kirby is good, Charlotte Gainsborough and Gideon too, and I wish to see more David Alvarez! Not up to the standard of Mrs. Meisel!

This series is a ballet nerd's dream. Closer in tone to Mrs. Maisel than Gilmore Girls or even Bunheads, there are laugh out loud moments and sly insider instances - Tiler Peck as the nerve struck Ava (genius!), Sylvie Guillem's shoes (**** dancing is wonderful - there needs to be more, of course but the Sherman-Palladinos havecaptured the heart and soul of two very different ballet companies with the personalities and cultural differences to go with them. Casting is smart and the writing, in two languages, as always is fast and spot on. May Etoile avenge Bunheads and run formany seasons.

Funny, witty and irreverent. The cast is all fabulous and Luke Kirby gives his career best performance.
