If it sticks with the quiet, string cheese moments, it could end up being an understated--but provocative--must watch.

The show cannily plays to teen hopes and dreams--the school, for example, is on the edge of a gorgeous beach (the kids at “90210” never had it this lush)--but there’s story for the adults as well.

What these, show runners, producers, and network brought to us was something of a dream. Who would have ever thought they would bring to light a wholesome two mom family that would normalize same sex parenting. They also shed light on another tough topic of foster care, and then they just ran with every current issue we're facing today and episode after episode just hit it out of the park. It's only a shame that we'll be losing this incredible series this year. It really is a series for the whole family to enjoy.

AWESOME! Help me (a 13 years boy) everyday with my choices and with my relationshiops. Thanks Disney ABC because reportes one of the most important themes of our society, the preconcieve witht he LGBT community, with the ethnicity and with the fosters kids.

Somehow the premiere hour fills in all this background without getting lost and--more importantly--with sincerity and sensitivity. [10 Jun 2013, p.50]

The pilot episode of The Fosters is pretty entertaining and well-plotted.

At least one aspect of Stef's relationship with her ex (Danny Nucci) seems unlikely, and Lena works at the most beautifully sited school in America, which all the kids happen to attend. But there's heart here, and a message about not throwing away children that belongs on a network that puts "Family" in its title.

Polo and Saum are good actresses, but they appear pretty well hamstrung in their initial scenes together, as Stef and Lena banter about not taking in more stray kids, prompting Stef to quip, "We are not 'The Brady Bunch.'" Take away a few elements, though, and they sort of are.

It is a shame that a show with so much potential to open discussions about family and the foster care system is so entirely uninteresting. What it does right: it portrays a family that despite many big "differences" is very much a normal family, with ordinary caring parents and typically difficult teenagers. What it does wrong: the "normal family" message drags the show into boring territory. It fails to give us any reason to care about these characters, precisely because it has made them overly-sanitized nice folks. I don't watch TV for nice.

i'm at the third season of the fosters and Stefs attitude is KILLING me . I understand she's going through a lot but I feel as if she can not talk bout Brandon wanting to date a teen mother. I don't completely remember her statement but she said something like " playing DADDY to kid ", in my opinion it was wrong for her to say that because teen mothers may not have their child's father around but we certainly don't need anybody to play daddy. especially when we have been taking care of our kid(s) since birth. Now I may just be overreacting because i'm a teen mother but a lot of words can hit deep. i'm just saying Stef should watch her mouth a little before she chooses to lash out & get to know Courtney and Mason first.

I just felt uncomfortable when one of the mothers got breast cancer and she lost her chest. She was saying that flat chested women are not women. I felt like I was insulted because I have a flat chest and that is even hard enough, but actually hearing from the TV makes me feel like I can't call myself a woman just because I have a flat chest. I wanted to cry when I saw that episode. I don't have confidence in my body, and this made me lose it more. I thought this was an insult to flat chested women. I want to have breast but I don't have them, and I am going to live with this for the rest of my life. I just hate this show now.

This is the epitome of anti-evolution. Those with zero potential to conceive ought NOT be lauded. An infertal man&woman couple, the only form of marriage, there is a potential to conceive. There is zero potential between two instances of the same gender self evidently. Marriage is to bring children into the world in love. Lust ought not be conflated with love.
