The CW's attempt to capture the magic of "Sex and the City" in a prequel, set in 1984, could have gone very wrong. But The Carrie Diaries is surprisingly right.

I love this show! I loved sex and the city and this is a great insight into carrie before new york. Of course some of the stories dont neccessarily add up but for me if you can detach from it being sjp then you can just enjoy the show for what it is, great characters, storylines that make you laugh and cry, ive really got into it. Great characters, larissa being a fave of mine and lindsey gort who plays samantha jones couldnt be more accurate with her portrayal. Its like she is literally a young version of kim catrall and youve gotta love her! Spot on! I also love the clothes, accessories and fashion, though its supposed to be set in the 80s i love the fact that i have been able to find key pieces in the shops now and have even bought outfits inspired by the cast. And finally sebastian kydd PHWOAR! What more reason do you need to watch carrie diaries? I hope there is a season 3!

The situations are stock--John Hughes wrote this playbook pretty thoroughly--and the dialogue does not exactly crackle. But it is all well-staged and believably played and at times it becomes quite lyrical and, even, moving.

The rest of the show goes on to prize sweetness over superficiality.

The CW series that takes "Sex and the City" fashionista and sexual anthropologist Carrie Bradshaw all the way back to 1984 Connecticut, and high school, the fit's a little off.

The memory of how that touchstone HBO show, at its best, wrapped heartbreak and satire in high comic style makes the ordinariness of The Carrie Diaries a little more disappointing than it would be otherwise.

While it's not surprising that The Carrie Diaries is unlikely to appeal to fans of the HBO franchise, it's still disappointing that much of what made that series work has given way to cliché and oversimplification.

First of all, I never watched SATC before watch TCD, so, to me, TCD it's a wonderful sitcom, that works and make you addicted easily. It's fun to watch, colorful, delightful and a very smart teen show. Also, the soundtrack it's SO amazing. CW should release it.

So Far from just watching the Pilot I was Pleasantly surprised. I assumed it would be just another teen show over sexualising kids and portraying teens to be adults. This was not true. I felt like the teens in this show were very realistically portrayed. There was some sex talk but not in the way you would expect considering this is a spin off of a very sex driven show. I don't think fans of sex in the city will like it if your looking for a carbon copy of the original. This is a TEEN show and it is fully a teen show. Saying that I wouldn't let anyone below 14 or 15 watch it because it does touch on mature subjects.

Kinda like a reboot to the Sex and the City franchise, but I like the series instead of watching The Carrie Diaries. I don't know if the show is gonna be a success, but maybe CW viewers including women everywhere have watched Carrie Bradshaw and the gals having a good time, partying at clubs, and Samantha having sex over the past 8 seasons. Those were the good old days at HBO. So, I don't know if Diaries survive in the ratings.

Honestly this would be a good show if it wasn't a SATC prequel the show has absolutely no relation to SATC and it's sad they say it is. For ex: In this show her mother died and she lives with her father yet in SATC Carrie says the reason she has such trouble with men is because her father left her and her mother when she was 3, so I mean it's really annoying they call this a prequel when really it's a totally different show.
