All in all, Lockwood is an appealing blend of noir-tinged detective tale, horror, and lowkey teen drama with just the right amount of witty banter.

It’s very satisfying in its own straight-ahead manner — touching and quick on its feet, with an excellent performance by Ruby Stokes (the sixth sibling in “Bridgerton”) as Lucy, the female point in the typical two-guys-and-a-girl teenage-melodrama triangle.

I watched the first episode with pessimism, I didn't think I'd actually watch the show. And then I finished the entire show in one night, going to bed at like 5 am. The world building is amazing, simple yet so interesting, the characters are amazing and the story is great. Netflix can take all of my money if I get season 2. Give this show a chance.

Lockwood & Co. is a lively adaptation of the book series, helped along by good chemistry between its leads.

Driven in particular by Stokes’s gutsy performance, it has a zinging underdog charm. It’s impossible to say if it will be as big a hit as Wednesday. But it certainly has the potential to suck Gen-Zers into its satisfyingly sinister world.

The latest in a long line of YA supernatural sagas from Netflix is a cut above, thanks to smart choices from showrunner Joe Cornish and a sparky young cast.

It’s a bit of a Ghostbusters/Harry Potter mashup, and the “special effects” seem as basic as you can get without dangling a white hanky on a stick. But Lockwood & Co has charm.

Unfortunately, it’s easy enough to see where the twists and turns are going to take us - and what could have been a huge plot twist to set up the final episode can be seen a mile away. But it’s Cornish’s ability to bring the most terrifying parts of Stroud’s novels to life (or to death) that sets Lockwood & Co apart from Netflix’s other fantasy offerings.

I almost didn't watch Lockwood & Co as it's already cancelled. I'm so glad I gave it a chance! The acting, the cinematography, the world building, the characters and the setting are outstanding. It is a fun adventure story with a few larger than life characters, but the main cast characters are very real - human and flawed and battling some very traumatic backstory demons. The character arcs are wonderful. The plot is fun and dramatic. There's plenty of spectacle as well as some heartachingly tender moments. I haven't loved a show this much in years! Hopefully another platform will pick it up and we will get to see the story continue. But even if we don't, I have no regrets for spending time on this gem. I would not be surprised if this cast go on to win Baftas and Oscars and can't wait to see what they do next. If my review persuades you to give it a go: do not skip the opening credits; put your phone in another room and pay attention as it's very dense and fast paced; be prepared to crave tea
