"Laid" (S01, 8-eps, 30-min, Peacock) This is clearly a showcase for Stephanie Hsu who EPs and stars in this fun, superficial comedy. Her character, Ruby, is a flighty and very promiscuous party planner. She soon realizes that former romantic conquests are unexpectedly dying so the balance of the series is her, with costar Zosier Mamet as AJ, treating this as a true crime thing that needs to be solved before more die. I have to agree with other reviewers that note Stephanie thinks too highly of herself in this role given she's a 4 (with makeup) so plausibility takes a hit. Though she doesn't resolve her mystery, the final scene of the finale opens the door for that resolution in a sophomore season.

Having watched the Australian version years back, the major difference is how the protagonist is written, The American "serial killer" is an annoying person who often gets her comeuppance with her friends and seemingly never learns. The possible second season hopefully improves as the new reveals at the end of the first season were laid bare.

Potentially interesting premise, but with lacking anything resembling an actual story, and so disappointingly and boringly executed, it's not worth your valuable time and attention. Maybe if the actors were likable, there'd be something there, there, but with the exception of Zosia Mamet, the actors aren't likable. At all.

Stephanie Hsu is only annoying and in her acting not for one second near any credibility. Overacting seems to be the most friendly term for this kind of self-obsession and overexpressivity.
