I appreciate that there is an effort, both by Prince and the writers, to make sure that Hilde is more than just some one-dimensional cute or precocious brat, and that there seems to be some serious fire in her veins when police officers initially dismiss her with a pat on the head. And do I indeed want to see—and do I want mine and other kids to see—an intrepid female reporter on the case? Yep. Do I wish that there were more adult versions of her on screen? Of course. But do I also wish the particulars of the job were handled more responsibly, especially in the era of fake news, and certainly if kids were going to watch? Uh huh.

Home Before Dark is a good 10-episode watch — at times very good. ... Prince is remarkable, and for every fleeting moment that you sense the "actor" in her coming to the surface, she follows it with a beat that's utterly spontaneous and affecting. ... I was consistently impressed by how many of the bigger things Home Before Dark does right. It all begins and ends with Prince.

Loved the series so far. The show is super interesting and engaging. It reminds me a little of broadchurch.

Home Before Dark is a solid show that features a character inspired by a real-life kid investigative reporter.

[Brooklynn Prince is] a compulsively watchable actor. She plays the fanciful premise (“What if Veronica Mars, but tinier?”) with such utter conviction that Home Before Dark is appealing in spite of its flaws.

[Brooklynn] Prince is a real find and Hilde’s relationship with her father forms a heartwarming backbone for the series. But the tone is confusing: Too dark to be a family show, even though it has a family at the core, “Home Before Dark” offers a dark mystery plot instead.

Whenever Hilde’s on-screen, the show is a gumshoe adventure, sometimes even with lovely animated interludes to explain backstory, or Hilde closing her eyes to remember a clue in her apparently photographic memory and applying Sherlock Holmes-style deduction. Whenever the spotlight is on Matt, it turns into a grittier tale of faded dreams, childhood trauma and corruption. It’s “The Goonies” by way of “Serial,” a no doubt attractive pitch that nonetheless has trouble establishing a steady voice of its own until deep into its first 10-episode season.

What saves it from simple tedious schmaltz (notwithstanding the clambering-on-tabletops-in-solidarity scene in the cafeteria as Hilde reads out – so fearlessly! So maturely! So driven-by-the-truthly! – the online comments from under her murder report) is Prince’s performance. She is simply astonishing. You wouldn’t believe her character in any other hands.

Excellent story line all around. Definitely would recommend to watch. The lead, Hilde, is a wonderful young actress with talent we all dream we could have.

This show was an amazing story about Journalism. I found the show to be an incredible portrayal of the world of journalism of a child. It was a riveting tale that showcased the importance of the press in society. The characters were well-developed, and the plot was skillfully crafted, leaving me captivated throughout the entire series. Overall, I highly recommend the show to anyone looking for a thought-provoking and engaging story. It shows that no matter your age, you can be and do anything!

Show was pretty well done aside from one annoyance. I felt the cast was good, story was interesting and kept my attention. Then the subtle woke comments turned me off. A few times where they propped up females whilst stepping on males. One instance in particular was in a later episode where Izzy and her parents are talking about the sheriff and she made some bs comment saying it’s because he’s white. Granted it’s very minor but I do not appreciate that kinda of race discrimination mainly because it is showing us it’s ok to talk bad about not only males but white males in that. I think it’s messed up that this will draw no attention but if it was a female or person of color, there would be a mob of Twitter idiots to @ apple requesting it be removed due to race and gender discrimination. Sadly because it’s a white male it will garner no attention. That kind of stuff turns people away from tv shows and their respective platform. You can’t fix racism and sexism by being racist and sexist in turn. Aside from that I think the show was well written. I liked the new sheriff a lot. Whether I’ll be back for season 2 is up for debate. If it continues with racist sexist subtle comments I won’t. (Updated for season 2). What started off subtle is now very prevelant in the 2nd season. Too much woke progressive crap to the point I might not finish it. Now they shove a trans kid being bullied into the mix and some racism against the sheriff coming from the stereotypical white man. Sad because this show had potential but they feel the need to force this woke progressive junk in their show.
