There may be a little more unpacking to do, but Dirk Gently has its own charming weirdness that you either go with or don’t. What’s fun about the story is that every character is obsessed with their own failings and problems while the cosmos keeps playing tricks on them.

I was surprised that I actually enjoyed season two more than season one. I loved all the new characters they introduced and having an established cast meant they could focus more on building on their relationships rather than trying to define who they are during all the what-the-hell-is-happening plot.

While the series is not a word-by-word translation of Douglas Adams' work, the creators infuse it with the soul, zaniness, inventiveness of said author, which is no small feat on its own. While lighthearted, it manages to be thought-provoking (I say this as a person who likes popular cosmology as a pastime). In a sea of sleak but shallow shows it's nice to see one that is the other way around. The returning characters have the chemistry that keeps the viewer drawn in; the new characters are inventive and unusual. Maybe it takes an acquired taste to appreciate this series but I definitely rank it high amongst my favourites. I would love to see it taken up by another network and continued for a third season.

No need whatsoever to introduce the magical land element (which opens the first episode). Still not sure about the season as a whole after a couple of episodes. Will keep giving it a try. Could have been so much more.

Went too far into the woke category. Very disappointing second season. Great concept but liberal execution ruined it
