In short, Cross’s sophomore season is a triumph that strengthens audience investment in the series as well as in Hodge’s continual portrayal of the complex detective.

While I'm still more partial to season 1's approach of giving Alex a deeply personal stake in the overall story, season 2 goes all-in on what works for its premise and succeeds. Maybe not to the same extent as season 1, but it's a success nevertheless.

Aldis Hodge comes back like gangbusters with his definitive take on detective Alex Cross, but the series still can’t figure out to be as killer good as he is.

STREAM IT, but with reservations. The second season of Cross still has a lot of charm, especially in the relationship between Cross and Sampson, but feels like it’s going to take some time to really find what its primary story is going to be.

Season 2 is entertainingly paced, but outside its lead, nothing about it allows it to stand out from Prime Video's similar offerings.

Abandoned by the show’s narrative as well as the series’ writers, Alex disappears from view, and the show unspools into a run-of-the-mill crime thriller.
