Abbott, almost invariably good (we’ll forgive Kraven the Hunter), is perfect here: he gives us a guy striving too hard to be a great dad, unlike Blake’s own father, and neglecting the husband side of the equation.

It’s a fine return for Whannell after being off the scene these last few years.

As it is, it’s an atmospheric, sporadically disquieting depiction of fatherhood in freefall.

Wolf Man grasps the sobriety of how easily men are acculturated to violence by other men, but loosens its hold around the start of its final act: the insularity of its world becomes a crutch rather than an asset, and the plot reassigns the task of solving male abandon to its female characters.

A semi-feral drama about parental fears that isn’t remotely scary enough to catalyze those concerns into the action it puts on screen, Wolf Man runs away from its potential with its tail between its legs. “There is nothing here worth dying for,” reads the “no trespassing” sign on the childhood home where Blake inexplicably returns with his wife and daughter. There’s nothing here worth watching for either.

Both intellectually and emotionally, there’s something promising afoot, and yet, Whannell doesn’t go far enough.

Slack when it should be terrifying, “Wolf Man” suffers from cheap sentimentality, laughably obvious script reveals, poor continuity and a creature that is less predatory than painful. Pity comes to mind.

a technically considerable drama ‘wolfman’ stands out for its exceptionally immersive sound design, which becomes one of the film’s most accomplished elements, elevating the auditory experience to an almost enveloping level. the movie offers an indirect critique of family relationships, subtly exploring the interpersonal dynamics underlying the plot. despite its short duration, the initial pace is slow, which may feel tedious for those who prefer faster narratives. however, this slow tempo abruptly shifts into a frantic, tense, and action-packed sequence—a necessary change to maintain interest and prevent viewers from losing focus, especially for those who don’t enjoy contemplative cinema. even with this rhythmic shift, the film never becomes fast enough, which can cause mild boredom. visually, the movie opts for very dark lighting, reinforcing the mysterious and somber tone, although it can cause some discomfort by making it difficult to clearly perceive certain scenes. personally, i believe the key visual information is well conveyed, but this choice might distract viewers less accustomed to this style. the cast delivers performances that, while not outstanding, adequately support a believable and relatively realistic story within the science fiction genre. a very positive aspect is the accurate portrayal of the protagonist’s psychological and mental deterioration, shown through expressions, gestures, and sensory distortion from his perspective, adding depth to the character. atmospheric music and careful use of shots, colors, and lighting further strengthen the psychological horror atmosphere accompanying the protagonist’s emotional decline. the dialogue, however, is conventional and does not contribute distinctive elements. the makeup stands out for its realism, achieving one of the most credible werewolf transformations seen on screen. however, the film lacks the aggression and brutality some might expect, opting for a more restrained approach that, while consistent with the narrative pace, can result in moments of lower impact for the audience. ‘wolfman’ rises as a deeply dramatic work, where emotional weight is not only felt but strongly imposed throughout the narrative. this omnipresent dramatism, marked by tense family relationships, gives the film an intensity that transcends horror or science fiction, anchoring it in the realm of human conflict and the fragility of emotional bonds. however, despite this emotional display, the film does not always succeed in fully engaging the viewer’s empathy. at times, the audience remains a distant witness, disconnected from the intimate experience the story seeks to convey. in conclusion, ‘wolfman’ is a technically solid and atmospheric film, clearly focused on psychological and considerably dramatic horror rather than visceral action. it is an interesting and entertaining proposal, though it may not satisfy all audiences and does not reach the level of an outstanding work within the genre.

Ok so not nearly as poor as i expected. The moms outfit was distracting though. She looks like shes undergoing a series of procedures to change into clown. The child actor wasnt super annoying, which is a welcome departure from the modern status quo. The special effects go hard with a couple really grotesque flourishes. And a few inventive horror moments. Didnt use ai as far as i could tell. It is a sparse film but not outright insulting. Probably why i never saw a lot of marketing. It doesnt mindlessly cram any particular agenda, nor explain literally every single bit.

"Wolfman" (2025) is a film that, despite its potential, unfortunately fails to deliver a compelling horror experience. The movie is not good, and its primary weaknesses are a poor story and an uninspired **** film's narrative struggles to find its footing, presenting a plot that feels disjointed and fails to build a convincing sense of dread or suspense. The story lacks originality, relying on tired tropes without adding anything new to the classic werewolf mythos. This makes the film predictable and, ultimately, unengaging.Furthermore, the execution of the horror elements is poor. The attempts at creating a frightening atmosphere or delivering effective scares often fall flat. The visual effects and practical effects, if present, are likely uninspired, detracting from the overall viewing **** characters are underdeveloped, and the performances, while perhaps not terrible, are not enough to salvage the weak script. The lack of a strong, cohesive plot and compelling character motivations make it difficult to form any connection with the story.Overall, "Wolfman" is a cinematic misfire. Its poor story and execution make it a disappointing and forgettable entry in the horror genre.

The cast tries. I think there was potential with the werewolf infection being this metaphor for childhood trauma. However, its execution is painfully sloppy. The movie runs a good 15 minutes too long, making me wish it were told in a tight 90 minutes. The look of the werewolf is just freaking ugly. And the whole under siege, stalked by a monster plot, is painfully generic. Leigh Whannell typically does well as a director, so I can forgive this one being mediocre.
