Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

Director Caple Jr. takes his time allowing Ramos and Fishback to develop their characters as they fight being marginalized and dismissed in ‘90s New York. They’re no mere cardboard characters but rather fully dimensional individuals, a rarity in “Transformers” movies.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts keeps it simple enough, which is smart, because franchise creep is going to hit like a ton of bricks within a sequel or two, especially given its ending. Rise of the Beasts isn’t quite as intimate or grounded as Bumblebee, but neither is it as cumbersome or dull as the other Transformers movies.

The many, many action sequences are spectacularly conceived and executed, including a car chase on the Williamsburg Bridge that’s probably still tying up downtown traffic.

There are a few bright spots in Rise of the Beasts, but these are largely overshadowed by a lot of generic parts that would not be out of place in any of the previous six Transformers movies.

Lacks the ‘ick’ factor of the earlier Bay-directed efforts, and Fishback and Ramos do a great job as the token humans, but this is still just silly and derivative.

The problem with Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the same problem faced by all of the installments — balancing the humanity with the metal.

The only people to feel sorry for in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts are Anthony Ramos (“In the Heights”) and Dominique Fishback (“Swarm”) who play actual humans trying to save the planet, when in real life they’re just humans trying to save a movie. They’re fine, but they can’t make a dent in the awfulness.

Finally a transformer movie without in your face product placement. Really enjoyed it.

Like it's not bad, but not good either. I watched it when it first came out, remember nothing from it mo major scenes nothing. Also I don't like this new thing without big fights long movies and deceptions

What a horrible movie. I struggled to finish it with the bad acting and script. So many roll-your-eyes moments. This is at best, a play in the background movie while you multitask on your phone or computer.

As forgettable as it was trashy. The robot designs are as ugly as the casting. What happened to beautiful Hollywood stars looking cool in front of the cool explosions? Instead expect awful writing featuring inserted comments about race. There is a poor CGI quality compared to the series previous efforts and an absolute nonsense Autobot vs unicron plotline that entirely wastes the source material. I barely made it to the end.
