The LEGO Batman Movie

Like a miniature universe made entirely of millions of tiny plastic bricks, The Lego Batman Movie looks and feels like it could only have been put together by a roomful of mad geniuses, moving in a ballet of well-choreographed creativity: It’s simultaneously epic and humble.

LEGO Batman revs so fast and moves so frenetically that it becomes a little exhausting by the end. It flirts with being too much of a good thing. But rarely has corporate brainwashing been so much fun and gone down with such a delightful aftertaste.

This version feels a lot less like a long advertisement for Lego products than the original, which featured multiple "here's how to build something cool" segments. And "LEGO Batman" uses pop culture better than the original.

Tonally, it’s closer to the Adam West television program than to any of the subsequent incarnations, although (if possible) The Lego Batman Movie takes itself even less seriously.

The show, however, belongs to Batman and Will Arnett. This is a movie that will be enjoyed heartily and repeatedly.

Although there is still much to enjoy here, this DC Comics-fueled Lego adventure fails to clear the creative bar so energetically raised by co-directors and writers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller back in 2014.

The greatest disappointment is how much of the script seems to have been assembled from a kit by someone afraid to deviate from the instructions. In a sequel to "The Lego Movie," that’s not just a letdown, it’s a betrayal.

It’s a really fun movie if a little annoying at times. It’s a pretty good film.

There is a genuine interest to analyze Bruce Wayne's lack of social development following his parents death. I wish the movie had dig deeper into this instead of devoting so much of its runtime to travel to The Phantom Zone and all those unnecessary villains.

Terrible. Watch something else instead of putting up with the terrible portrayal of Batman that casts him as an all-round **** Treat your family to a good book, in fact. They'll thank you for it.

As a children's film, The Lego Batman movie seems to appeal mostly to adults, which isn't surprising considering its generic pileup of references to other media. Much of the humor comes from changing the personality of Batman altogether. Scenes change so rapidly, the director must have a short attention span. The voice cast is terrible; it's as if they chose people based on their star power alone. Compared to The Lego Movie, it's a letdown, and compared to any other Batman film, it's a disaster.
