The Clapper

The Clapper is a sharp combination of sweet romance and biting satire on the cruelties committed in the name of entertainment.

The Clapper isn’t hateful, which is a huge step up for Montiel. It’s merely puerile, insipid, clumsy with only the barest hints of believeability.

The Clapper is just so boring and corny that all the audience can do is either feel bad for Helms or disingenuously applaud his unsuccessful efforts, mimicking his character’s chosen vocation.

So poorly done, its tone so lackadaisical and uncommitted, it's not clear half the time what you're even watching. If it's supposed to be a comedy, it's not funny. If it's supposed to be a satire, it doesn't know what it's satirizing. The biggest problem is that the stakes are never high enough to invest in any of it.

The Clapper unsuccessfully attempts to be sincere and embrace the absurdity of its characters’ lives.

Bafflingly witless, The Clapper is an oblivious non-starter with myriad deficiencies. Artless and clueless at every turn, writer/director Dito Montiel’s inane movie is a one-note half-gag somehow stretched into a painful 90-minute movie.

Mashing limp romance and artless satire into a ludicrously contrived plot, The Clapper lurches from one mirthlessly eccentric scene to another.

I usually trust metacritic for reviews, but they #$#@ed this one. This is a great nuanced movie about odd, genuine people with a classic Hollywood ending.

Weird story with weird characters and a weird combination of people casted, nonetheless, nothing more than rapidly forgotten movie.

Amanda Seyfried could be doing a lot better and Ed Helms, I'm sorry but he doesn't have enough acting weight to carry a full lead character.
