Sex Tape

At heart, it’s about as naughty as an old Disney movie with Dean Jones, Suzanne Pleshette, and an unruly Great Dane. I liked its gung-ho slapstick spirit, though. No one’s slacking off.

Sex Tape is warmer and more amusing than its ads would lead one to believe. In fact, it’s almost good enough, leaning a little too hard on the innate likability of stars Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel.

Sex Tape is not quite the train wreck its TV ads make it out to be.

Since it's a comedy, much could be forgiven if the film was consistent in generating laughs, but the comedy is as erratic as the couple's sex life.

Now, Diaz and Segel co-star for Kasdan again in Sex Tape, but their characters are so indiscernible as actual human beings, it’s hard to tell who they are, much less whether they have any sort of enjoyable, raunchy chemistry.

Sex Tape is a hustler of a film — it works very hard for its laughs — but it's so haphazardly directed (by Jake Kasdan) and written (by Kate Angelo and Segel and Nicholas Stoller) that it can easily be divided into three distinct sections.

Massively stupid: preposterous yet boring.

most of it is pretty good, but not great. The middle of the film, where they actually try to retrieve the tape is where the film sags like a flat tire.

It is enjoyable to see the chemistry between Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz evolve, in a not so great, cliched, raunchy sex comedy about a burned out relationship.

Quite disappointing. There isn't as much copulation as the title suggests. Can't be that bad if everything else makes up for it, right? Nope. Jason Segel is a rubbish cast, he delivers some truly cringe-inducing dialogue which make me squirm in embarrassment. Cameron Diaz, on the other hand, is much more natural at her role; she is a vastly superior cast. I can't help but feel that if Diaz was paired with a better counterpart, the film would be much better. The plot is utterly bonkers, but it occasionally brings out good humour that seems to be missing every other time. Sex Tape is a dull, below average film with promising moments that are too few and far between.

Very poor attempt at comedy with a terribly contrived story shackled to a script which is littered with "comic" simulated sex scenes and a lot of very cynical Apple product placement. Avoid.
