I was laughing myself sick over Saving Silverman, a sublimely idiotic farce in the "There's Something About Mary" tradition.

Wall Street Journal
It's basically a cheerful slob job, one of those slapped-together features so often embraced by teenagers with more disposable income than discernible taste.

Ignore those fake critics in Hollywood and listen to the people! This film is hilarious and ever-quotable! Wayne: So Darren tells me you're a psychologist. Judith: That's right. Wayne: I'm in a related field. Judith: Really? What is it? Wayne: Pest and rodent removal. Judith: How is that related? Wayne: We both help people. Well worth the hour and a half with Steve Zahn and Jack Black being the best 'sidekicks' and Neil Diamond lovers ever on film!

It's so very sad that the critics of 2001 didn't have the insight to appreciate this movie. If you don't understand the characters you don't understand human psychology. If you can't laugh at this movie, you aren't human.

Relentlessly dopey and vulgar.

New York Daily News
Screenwriters look to many sources for inspiration. In the case of Saving Silverman, they looked behind them, and liked what they saw.
20
The New York Times
Does occasionally rise out of the sewer of its self-imposed idiocy, ascending in brief moments from utter witlessness to half-witlessness, mostly thanks to the loose comic byplay between Mr. Black and Mr. Zahn.
12
Chicago Sun-Times
So bad in so many different ways that perhaps you should see it, as an example of the lowest slopes of the bell-shaped curve.
0
Austin Chronicle
Reaches toward new heights of comic laziness and succeeds beyond anyone's wildest expectations.

Very funny, but it's like a stupid funny movie. The loser crew loses one guy to his new girlfriend. They try to kidnap her because they want their friend back.

Yikes! Despite a charming Amanda Peet, the film lacks in plot and god-awful acting. Ahem, Jason Biggs, et cetera. Neil Diamond can't possibly approve of this filth?

They swore nothing could come between them. Then she came along.
