Saints and Sinners

One of the most effective, intelligent, mature and romantic love stories to come across the screen recently is, of all things, a documentary.

Quietly persuasive and very timely documentary.

The movie is sociologically rich, if not very memorable in the personalities it depicts.

For an outside observer, Saints and Sinners doesn't make particularly compelling viewing, but Ms. Honor has given her subjects an excellent present on their big day: the ultimate wedding video.

There's an enforced squareness afoot as the directors contrast the couple with Pride-float revelers, as if testifying in front of a Massachusetts court that these two are as fuddy-duddy as the wholesomest het duo.

While Saints And Sinners will strike some as a refreshingly even-toned social study, it's also a documentary heavy on talking heads and low on real drama. It's beautifully shot and deeply felt, but, for the most part, hearing a description of the film is as good as watching it.

Has the feel of a home movie of greater interest to its participants than to an audience.
