With intelligence and great moviemaking skill, [Reynolds] has created a classic variation on a venerated ancient theme.

Though there’s some clunky dialogue and not much real character development, Reynolds manages to put the action, mystery and drama elements together into a credible, and at times quite touching whole.

The acting in this was excellent, and not just Fiennes, who was great. The music was spot on. The cast were believable. Cliff Curtis should do Jesus again, he was perfect for the role.

The film, directed and co-written by Kevin Reynolds ("Fandango," um, "Waterworld"), is a nice-enough telling of the Resurrection of Jesus, which at times seems like it also wants to be a Very Special Episode of "CSI: Jerusalem." It's well-made and well-acted.

Surprisingly, it’s distinctly one of the better faith-based films in some time to wander down the road to Galilee.

So Risen joins the swelling ranks of faith-based films that pander to audiences instead of serving them.

This movie is a must-watch. It is so very well done and has the elements to really speak to your heart. This movie really brings to light the mind-disturbingly, difficult, and un-reconcilable situations the early disciples (and others) had to grapple with. The Resurrection. Especially for a proud Roman.
Joseph Fiennes, the lead actor has done a marvelously great job in portraying the turmoil and chaos that goes on through His mind regarding the life-changing fact of the Resurrection. The testimony of the second guard in the tavern was raw and beautifully portrayed. Great acting performance. Fantastic work done by the script-writers. The soundtrack is beautiful. Mesmerizingly beautiful. and I have had it on repeat for days on end now! It is just that good. It takes you so well into the setting of the movie, and reminds you constantly of the first century Jewish and Roman times.
I encourage you to watch this movie and gift it to a non-believer too. What a great movie for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ!

I good movie on its own, but unfortunately the suspenseful moments were ruined as you already knew how it would turn out.

It's something beyond a manhunt... I just want to review it as a film, so my take on this is pure based on the entertainment and technical aspect, not historical or the religious stuff. The story was not bad, which is set in the Israel 33AD where a Roman man tells his story what he just went through. So the flashback begins, just like an unofficial sequel to 'The Passion of the Christ', the story continues after the crucifiction of Yeshua. Sealed the tomb with the roman mark and guarded it by an armed force, the body of Yeshua goes missing. With the widespread speculation going around and the order from a higher authority, the Roman soldiers led by Clavius attempts to locate the body by following the hints. So the rest of the story is racing against the time where many unexpected and strange events follows. It was a perfect setting for a tale like this. The characters were good, but in the end it certainly questions their actions based in what purpose. It was told from a Roman perspective and his transformation to what he ultimately believes. The details were good while depicting the events. A simple narration with not so fancy stunts and others tricks, yet somewhere it loses its realistic approach to the supernatural thing. Since they did not mention anything related to the real account, it is fairly debatable yet not worth debating seriously. Because different people have different opinion regarding religious, historical and entertainment angle. But absolutely this film is target every one of them. This kind of films is worth watching, because each writer, filmmaker gives us a different take on the person who is behind the world's largest faith. So 'liked it' or 'didn't like' should come after the view. Though it was a quite enjoyable film. 6/10

An interesting slant on the old tale. Like "the Robe" with Richard Burton, a Roman soldier has a change of heart about the man he crucified. A little more insight on the politics of Rome and how it shaped Pontius Pilate's decisions. A little to cliché in the acting, but an okay film.

I ain't much into Beliefs but as a realist I find this concept not so significant like 2011 A Separation Movie.
