Still, this is an involving and inspirational tale, highlighted by a Christopher Walken performance that is remarkably free of any showy tics or mannerisms and is a reminder Walken is a great actor first, a lovable caricature second.

Frustratingly poised on the knife's-edge of "pretty good but not as good as you want it to be," the movie might've benefitted from a more leisurely but focused pace that would've allowed the characters to breathe more, and the legal and scientific concepts to be explained with greater clarity.

It’s good to see the usually difficult to like Christopher Walken taking a role that shows he can be more human. Here he drops most of his intensely bullish traits to bring life to a man of the earth and does so quite well. With a string of movies about corporate greed or corruption this one can’t bring all that much new to the genre (after all, it is a genre) I have not seen the documentary about this case but it felt like this production was at least attempting to bring a documentary style to this telling. While there are serious doubts surrounding the ethics of so-called not for profit activists groups, who too often tend to be more in line with political manipulation than the good of mankind, Christina Ricci injects her group member’s character with a reasonable amount of believability. The rest of the cast work hard to create a pleasing outcome and while it’s a slow-moving story it’s filled with hope, that at times, right can defeat might - even if not all the outcomes are as desired. Production values are high with locations being well used - this is good of its type even though some of the truth might be fiddled somewhat.

A decent film. Another terrific performance by the great Chris Walken. I don't know much about the background of the true story that was told here, so I don't have much to go by.

Percy vs. Goliath is dramatically flat, predictable in its pluck at times. But Walken is magnificent, and the other casting — on the nose as it is (Ricci can still pull off the young activist willing to sleep in her car for the cause) — works.

Walken keeps you watching thanks to his inherent charisma, still undimmed in his late 70s.

Percy Vs Goliath has a solid sense of place—the Canadian prairie—and Mr. Walken gives us a solid sense of Percy, a man whose instincts are so contrarian he sometimes seems unsure whom to disagree with, or what to refuse to do.

Sentimental and a little corny in parts, “Percy” is protected from bathos by Walken’s proudly minimalist performance as an intensely private man reluctantly drawn into an uncomfortably public fight.

While well cast and plenty compelling (including feisty turns from Christopher Walken and Christina Ricci), this reductive farmer drama deals in emotions more than explanations as it seeks to convey what it means for a little-guy grower like Percy Schmeiser to go up against Big Agro.

I think it is the most fragile of the legal dramas against an anti-environmentalist multinational since is filmed by a director accustomed to television series. Not even the great Walken, who here is self-producing, can do much to raise the quality level above a narrow sufficiency.

The story while engaging and interesting can't get past the extremely ordinary execution of its narrative.
Even with the addition of Christopher Walken's low-key performance and the appearances of Roberta Maxwell, Christina Ricci and Zach Braff, this is in every way a film that feels like a Hallmark TV-movie. And that, in the end, is what makes it so forgettable.
