2022's 'Out of the Darkness' is a dark and harrowing story of survival and fear in a world unrecognisable to us. SYNOPSIS: 'In the Old Stone Age, a disparate gang of early humans band together in search of a new land. But when they suspect a malevolent, mystical being is hunting them down, the clan are forced to confront a danger they never envisioned.' This film feels like it should be part of the 'Predator' universe and is similar in style to 'Prey'. If there is ever to be a Predator film set in this timeline it'll be lucky to get close to the beauty and intensity of this film. Out of the Darkness' is a gorgeous looking movie and produced on a shoe string budget. I absolutely applaud the production team for this. This is a survival thriller down to the bare bones. Literally. It's as much about the evil which lives within us as it is the monsters out there in the dark. It's a truly human story of perseverance and a determination to live. It also raises so many questions on how the hell did humans survive in this world to become the beings we are now. There's no way I was surviving this. No way at all. An incredibly chilling journey back in time. 9/10

The frights may be standard issue, but that novel setting, the ways characters rise to or shrink from their greatest tests, and the grim nature of human life in this most fragile of ages make Out of Darkness a winner, right down to the minimalist pun of its title.

Out of Darkness (2022) Very Disappointing (12,049– 09 Nov 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) 45,000 years ago, Adem (Chuku Modu) leads five ****-sapiens to a new land. The group, formed by his pregnant mate Avé (Iola Evans), his son Heron (Luna Mwezi), his brother Geirr (Kit Young), the elder Odal (Arno Lüning) and the nomad Beyah (Safia Oakley-Green) arrive at an infertile land in Europe and seek shelter at the mountains. When Heron is kidnapped, Adem forces his group to seek his son at the forest. But soon they realize that something dreadful is lurking them. “Out of Darkness” (2022) is a British movie that raised the expectation that it should be a new Jean-Jacques Annaud's “La guerre du feu” (1981), a.k.a. “Quest for Fire”. Unfortunately, it is a disappointing movie. The conflict between ****-sapiens and neanderthal has a terrible conclusion. My vote is five. Out of Darkness squanders its potential, unable to fill the tension it creates. The movie makes you wonder about many possibilities but ends as a human drama, which is a huge miss. My only gain is that I met Safia Oakley-Green. Such a talent. Noted.

Os caras conseguiram um espaço para locação capaz de filmar uma fotografia muito bonita, ou ao menos convincente. Mas esqueceram de depura o texto: humanos de 35 mil anos atrás falando e gesticulando como se estivessem no século XXI. E ainda tem feminismo na história!! Pelo menos Hobbes estava certo, "O homem é o lobo do homem", única premissa que salva o filme do total desastre.
