Immensely entertaining and unabashedly inspirational.

A professionally crafted family film that reserves all its challenging moments for its characters, letting the audience bask comfortably in the approach of a predetermined warm and fuzzy ending.

The film is about the need to go towards a goal and look for friends with the same interests and that you always need to come to an agreement and try something new while you are young and you don't have a family or obligations.

This is not just an underrated movie, but also a hugely inspiring and sympathetic one. When I watched this movie in my reading class it was an inspirational surprise for me how easy it was for me to fell in love with this movie. It would be great to see it on the very big screen because I just love this movie. I love it very much.

At its best, the movie evokes that blend of thrill and terror that comes from mixing two chemicals together without being sure that an instant later you'll still be standing there in one piece.

While this movie hasn't many surprises, it does offer strong performances, especially from Gyllenhaal.

The movie manages to push buttons without seeming formulaic.

Offers a strange mix of sentimentality and social criticism, sometimes mixing the two to awkward effect.

October Sky may be set around coal mines, but ultimately it's Field of Corn, Part II.

Pros:
1.Based on a true story.
**** of those few movies that reach the emotional core.
3.Inspiring yet realistic, the story depicts ordinary kids doing extra ordinary things through will and effort.
4.A boy's journey to his dreams.

Inspiring movie that is well-acted. Of all the movies I could recommend to my students it is this movie, to which they all invariably respond in the most positive way. Don't pay attention to the curmudgeons and holier-than-thou critics who rarely have a good word to say about any movie, especially one that celebrates ambition and intelligence. This movie has great heart even as it appeals to the mind.

There certainly was an emotional core to this movie that made it appealing along with some heavy hitter acting from Chris cooper it was almost good. The moral and general feel was curious and fun but the downfalls of the script, the young acting, and the lack of true meaning falls flat. The outcome is a well directed after school special that I could do without.

October Sky is a horrible movie. The acting was bad, the score was bad, the writing was bad, and it tried WAY to hard to be sad or serious. BUT, I still liked and enjoyed it. It was entertaining, even though some parts were laughably bad.
