What starts off as a funny and lighthearted film takes a turn as the plot progresses. This story ultimately talks about the impact of bonds and relationships, and to love and be happy that these amazing relationships existed in our lives. This deep movie will have viewers' soul searching by the end of it.

One of those very earnest films directed by its writer. It's like a single malt scotch - its quirks give it its character. Perhaps a tiny bit amateurish, a bit clumsy in places, but full of meaning and heart. It is a sweet watch and rather memorable.

#TheShortHandCritic: Care to go on a Grade-A Nostalgia Trip? #MyOldAss contemplates what it would be like for your older self to appear one day right in the middle of presumably your best youthful days. In the case of Elliott (played by #MaisyStella), this is the final summer ever spent at their families lakehouse. In the hands of most, this script would have sank into the comedic realm of stupidity faster than a rock tossed into water. What we have here is a sensitive and bittersweet darling of a film with timely relevance that is so truthfully directed by #MeganPark. There’s such care in the development and poignancy in its approach. It’s clear that Park has a real connection to the heartwrenching measures the passage of time can have on us—or at least those strong enough to be in tune with it. Nothing will prepare you for the absolutely beautiful performance given by Stella. She’s a revelation worthy of Oscar consideration as she goes through all the stages **** performance with wisdom well beyond her brief years in the business. #AubreyPlaza plays her older self—and while the films only gnawing flaw is that we see so little of her—Plaza still lays a lasting impression on us. It’s a travesty when films like “My Old Ass” seem to slip through the cracks. However, this one could be likely rescued by the irony of time finding it in a more accepting era—or just #Oscar voters getting off their own asses and finally considering movies out of their normal nomination playbooks. Watch this movie now. The end. ️️️1/2 (Out of 4 Because 5 Stars Are For Restaurants & Hotels Only) #FilmReview #ShortHandCritic

I enjoyed it, has a sweet message. As an old ass dude, I wish they went into more detail about Aubrey Plaza's story, mistakes, & lessons learned. Maybe in the sequel. Was hoping for more comedy.

Spends more time on 'they/them' social politics and DEI check-boxes, than the actual plot. Inexcusable plotholes and terrible writing sink a premise that should be a simple, enjoyable coming-of-age story.

What if you met your future self and she/he told you not to do something to protect yourself, but you did it anyway? 'My Old Ass' is a cute romantic comedy that could be described as a 100% less grotesque version of 'The Substance' and a 50% less depressing version of 'All of Us Strangers.' Decent in every way, but the message surrounding **** identity that it sends can be disconcerting. And if you think the main character looks like Justin Bieber, wait for THAT scene.

I found this movie randomly on prime and thought that the premise looked pretty cute especially since I am 40 as of this year and I thought it was relatable if I could go back and talk to my younger selfat the age IM now and get through to give myself some advice what I might do. The movie has some really funny moments there is a lot of levity and wholesomeness at the heart of the movie as well and it really touched me to see how a Young adult experimenting with things and finding who they are as they come into being a new adult and and if they could meet their future selves who they might become.

It was time to see a comedy that proposes a fresh idea and at the same time makes the viewer think. That and the performances are the best contribution of the film that could well have been exploited in cinema.

"My Old Ass" is a generic, derivative comedy-drama with some of the most infuriating gen-z dialogue that's so on-the-nose it might as well be pulled directly from a college student's Tumblr bio.

Have you ever wanted to talk to the older version of yourself? Well now you can. In this comedic twist on a coming of age story. This movie is funny. The cinematography is fine. The ending left a lot to be desired. but it was a light hard and enjoyable watch

Maisy Stella plays a free-spirited teen who's about to leave home for college. She spends a final weekend with her besties, where she takes a mushroom trip that conjures up the 39-year-old version of herself (Aubrey Plaza). The main warning she receives from "her old ass" is to avoid Chad (Percy Hynes White), but his charms make that a challenge. In many ways this is a fairly typical chick flick with the expected romantic and family elements. What helps it stand out are the characters: Stella is continually charming, White makes the ideal boyfriend and the few moments where Plaza is onscreen provides the most quirky fun. She's really there only twice, which is a shame. Writer/director Megan Park fills the moments with enjoyable interactions and an appealing script, but it's the performances that are the film's best asset. They help it rise above a typical teen chick flick to create a bittersweet romcom.

This movie is so well written and so full of heart. All the actors are great but I was not prepared for the depth pf feeling Aubrey Plaza brought. In a few moments, near the end, she is truly amazing.

I went not really knowing about My Old Ass and left thing it was one of the BEST MOVIES I’ve seen in many years! I love movies and go to 1 a week for 8 years! Maisy was wonderful and Plaza perfect!! I laughed, I cried and left thinking about my own mistakes in life and if I could change them would I !? It was truly a tripping idea that was meant to be a trip— it succeeded!

Well, this was nice. A gentle teen romance where all the characters are untroubled and decent. Delivers all kinds of low-keys feels. Maisy Stella gives a completely unaffected, real performance. You’ll like being in the company of these folks-

Ok enough with some tried and true sentimental messaging and values about family and the passage of time. For me it just laid it a little thick and, pardon me, but it was a little too much up its own ass.

If you had the chance to speak with your future self, what would you discuss? That’s the opportunity unexpectedly presented to 18-year-old Elliott (Maisy Stella), the daughter of a Canadian cranberry farmer who’s about to leave her rural home to attend college in Toronto, a new chapter in her life that she anxiously awaits. To commemorate the occasion, Elliott and her two best friends (Kerrice Brooks, Maddie Ziegler) decide to celebrate by imbibing in festivities involving a brew of magic mushrooms. However, much to her surprise, while in her altered state of consciousness, Elliott meets her 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza), who provides the teen with an insightful look into her future. Much of their conversation focuses on things that her younger self could stand to work on, but, perhaps the most significant topic of discussion centers on a warning to avoid involvement with an as-yet-unmet young man named Chad (Percy Hynes White). Not long thereafter, though, Elliott meets this mysterious stranger, who just happens to be a field hand hired to work on the farm for the summer. She quickly becomes smitten with the charming newcomer and wonders why her elder self so vehemently cautions her from getting to know him, advice she promptly ignores. This, of course, raises many pertinent questions, such as must we obediently accept such supposedly prophetic proclamations as gospel? Is our future indeed written in stone? And, even if our destiny is allegedly unalterable, should we unquestioningly abide by any cautions associated with it, or should we follow our gut instincts even knowing what the consequences might be? These are among the themes thoughtfully addressed in writer-director Megan Park’s second feature, a sweet coming of age tale with a twist, one punctuated with gentle humor, heartfelt emotions, astute realizations and more than a few intriguing revelations. The picture is also beautifully filmed in the picturesque lake country surrounding Muskoka, Ontario, providing audiences with views of some spectacularly gorgeous scenery reminiscent of “On Golden Pond” (1981). However, despite these strengths, the film feels a little underdeveloped in several regards, particularly when it comes to various supporting characters and subplots, as well as some back story aspects of the elder Elliott’s future existence. Given this offering’s relatively short 100 runtime, it’s somewhat baffling why the filmmaker didn’t take a little extra time to more fully flesh out these elements (after all, it’s not like the picture is overlong or tiresomely tedious). Nevertheless, those shortcomings aside, “My Old Ass” is a pleasant, inoffensive way to spend some time at the movies watching an uplifting, enlightening little story that nicely warms the heart and tells a story with an earnest message about how to approach living our lives. And it’s hard to find much fault with that.

This movie will sneak up on you. It absolutely struck a chord with me, and I can't wait for my pals to see it to find out if they react similarly. The lead actress is fantastic, as are her friends, her family, and her future self!

It’s impossible not to be impressed by how deftly My Old Ass can touch on coming-of-age comedy tropes without getting mired in them. This movie has all the feels, and it’s a pleasure to share in them.
