Watching Coppola land on his head and then pick himself back up again and point himself at another brick wall is ultimately strangely inspiring.

A look at Coppola’s creative process that proves significantly more illuminating and entertaining than the director’s finished product.

By depicting Coppola simply as a diligent director at work, Megadoc is ennobling without being hagiographic.

Megalopolis is one of those movies that feels like it offers an accurate window behind the scenes of its own creation process, and Megadoc confirms as much without ever becoming redundant.

While Figgis gets this extraordinary and unrestricted access, there’s a real question about what he does with it. Coppola is infamous for finding his films in the edit, but it’s hard to see that Figgis found that much more than he had in the camera.

Figgis gets moments of real tension and genuine behind-the-scenes drama, but is also too respectful and admiring of Coppola, understandably so, to push his own inquiry to its limits.

Far too much time is spent with the tedious off-camera histrionics of the brattish co-star Shia LaBeouf, and the admission that Figgis was hand-chosen (“invited”) by Coppola for the documentary renders it slightly toothless.

All I ever wanted to know about a movie i haven't seen, and didn't know i really wanted to. Im betting the film is a mess, but could this be a first? A documentary to market the movie post-flop? The theme is chaos and you get it in spades. Everyone has their own take on what theyre doing and none of them match. You also get to see relationships with Coppola from every level and length. Shia was my favorite, but i loved them all. The only parts that I found a bit boring, and I despise myself for even thinking it, was the crew segments. Its incredibly important work and no movie would get made without them, but its also some of the more tedious parts of the movie biz, which you gotta love to put up with. Overall, I was a little sad it ended. This could've been a great, limited docuseries.

"Megadoc" is a very entertaining mood piece and a process piece, shot up close with lo-fi video equipment, Mike Figgis gives us a look into the process and making of one of the most divisive and flawed movies from one of our most legendary directors.
