King Richard

It’s the most sheerly pleasurable movie I’ve seen so far this year.

All around, King Richard is a solid, inspiring film.

This is a straight-edge, inspirational sporting film of the old school – closer to Rocky than Hoop Dreams. Taking all the inevitable compromises on board, it could hardly work better within its chosen parameters.

The movie as a whole isn’t about moments but a synthesis of all the factors that enriched the girls’ tennis DNA. Regardless of how much is true, how much has been softened and reshaped to suit the movie’s perspective, and how much is fabricated, the end result is compelling drama with top-notch performances and a feel-good denouement.

The film embodies its namesake’s oft-repeated — if increasingly suspect — ethos of making sure that fun comes first.

Anytime King Richard threatens to follow an anodyne sports-movie arc, Williams’s forceful personality rears its head again.

Rarely has a film used its foreknowledge of a happy ending as a reason to remain so uncritical and incurious of its central subject.

This is the most immersive film of the year. Everyone doesn't need to be ready to this wonderful epic drama family bursting with life. A biopic that we didn't ask for, but that we need to evolved our conscience. Finally Will Smith will win an Academy Award for Best Actor and he really deserves, his performance was subtle also poignant and all the cast were excellent in their roles. The director wants to cross the way of the symbolic narratively, because the script and the dialogues were the best of the film, definitely was the most spellbinding. Everything else were very well, but in the technical aspect doesn't take risks to show up a visual breakthrough.

Will Smith is great here but the story really isn't that engaging. The film should have focused more on Serena and Venus.

Inspirational story for sure. But I wanted more of the Williams Sisters. I have a sneaky feeling we got the Readers Digest version of what it was like growing up under King Richard.

Will smith playing will **** has proved to be an overgrown toddler with serious issues.
