Heartstone

Beautiful portray of what a relationship for two people can be, different for each one of those people. The film is hard to watch at times. It´s realistic but also with some unnecessary shots at the beggining which apart from cruel, make you hate pretty much all the characters at first. Thankfully that changes and it develops in this beautiful (but sad) interaction between these two teenagers and includes very emotional scenes and warm reactions too. I just wish we all could learn once and for all to be kinder with our environment, something I´m not sure the people responsible for this film are aware of, just like the other review here said. But the story itself is well done. Best character the blonde kid.

"I will come find you." Thor, Kristján, Hanna, and Beth feel so genuinely like kids of that age, which makes them so endearing. They are violent, impulsive, and purely instinctual. Thor wetting the bed in his sleep after his first kiss is hilarious. Thor's older sisters also feel exactly like teenagers of that age, dancing suggestively to pop music without even realizing the song sexually objectifies them. The overall atmosphere feels very similar to "Boys." Having a homophobic father, Kristján knows all too well how thoroughly he must suppress his feelings. Trying to test the waters with his crush only ends up pairing her with Thor instead, and seeing Kristján scream in frustration inside a dirty pond is so deeply heartbreaking. Did the Nordic kids dye their eyelashes because they are actors? Since they are so young, do regular kids also dye their eyelashes black like that? How clean of a country must it be for them to just scoop up snow and eat it like that? The opening scene, which seemed to merely portray playful kids, held a profound meaning. While the excited children catch massive fish, an inedible, ugly scorpionfish gets caught, and everyone mocks it for resembling Kristján and tries to stomp it to death. Even though it is already crushed and barely surviving, Thor saves the scorpionfish and releases it back into the sea. I had no idea this was a metaphor for their relationship. Kristján loved Thor instinctively, and while Thor cares deeply for Kristján as a best friend, he cannot return that love in the same romantic way. Even so, Thor will look out for Kristján and support him, just as he always has. Stay strong, Kristján.
