Slickly-made parapsychological murder mystery featuring a solid performance by Faye Dunaway as a fashion photographer who sees murders in her mind's eye. [06 Sep 1978]

It's the cleverness of Eyes of Laura Mars that counts, cleverness that manifests itself in superlative casting, drily controlled direction from Irvin Kershner, and spectacular settings that turn New York into the kind of eerie, lavish dreamland that could exist only in the idle noodlings of the very, very hip.
70
Eyes of Laura Mars is a very stylish thriller [from a story by John Carpenter] in search of a better ending.

You find yourself chewing over Laura Mars after the lights come up. Unfortunately, it's the kind of chew that leaves your jaw feeling tired and your mouth tasting sour. [03 Aug 1978, p.B6]
40
Too glossy to evoke real sexual tension or, more crucially in this genre, fear, Laura Mars suffers from the over complication of something so simple as serial killing.
40
Parts of the film are nasty enough to grip the audience, but a large portion is muddled and sometimes laughably pretentious.
30
A shallow, chic confusion of eyes, camera lenses, and saleable images of violence of the sort it now purports to question as an 'issue'.

Eyes of Laura Mars is a classic thriller of the late 70s. Sufficient balance between monotonous storytelling and suspense. A good acting blow pleases. And at least Caprenter is involved only as a screenwriter. And the script was also significantly reworked difficult to assess in Eyes of Laura Mars the influence of Carpenter is difficult. The film, like a thriller, is wasted with its ending, too it is not logical and fleeting. Not to mention its absurdity. But if you have longing for the late 70s atmosphere and New York at the time, then Eyes of Laura Mars is a seasoned movie. But it's worth considering that for the most part Eyes of Laura Mars is more of a drama with thriller elements
