(Mauro Lanari) Another copy-paste of countless other movies. Why doesn't Nolfi go back to adapting a Dìck short story like he did in 2011?

It's a normal movie, but it's just a typical modern movie; you won't see anything interesting here. It's not badly shot, the acting isn't great, the plot is okay but nothing special. It's a typical Hollywood movie that doesn't stand out in any way. I'm a fan of this genre, but even for me, this movie is only good for one evening.

It reminded me of "A Quiet Place" meets "The Last of Us". Overall good movie that had potential to be much better. They needed to spend a little more time and money, and this could have been really cool. It was better than "Sinners" that I watched the same day though.

A decent enough film with some solid acting and lovely setting. The monsters however are uninspiring and quite childish. It's almost as if it was meant to be a kids series, but they made a film instead. That said, I kind of liked it and would watch it again.

They just took A Quiet Place, changed a few minor things, and are trying to pass it off as their unique idea. There's zero effort in creativity with this, and it shows. not to mention the slow pace, the lengths of time that pass without a single word being uttered, and stiff performances that cruely remind you that Mackie will never be a true leading man.

It nails the sound design—every note feels intentional, pulling you in. The setting is a stunner, too, with gorgeous visuals throughout. But the story? Ugh. Nothing groundbreaking, and the world-building could’ve been better. It seems like the last 20 minutes of the film is totally detached from what came before.

A Quiet Place ran so Elevation could walk. SUSPENSEFUL - COOL - SINCERE - DRAMATIC I'm always down for a good monster movie. Mackie (Producer, Actor) brought this film to life. If it wasn't him, it would flop like a fish. A lot rested on his shoulders, but he led it well. It's good. It's not AMAZING, but it's good. There was some... depth missing to the film... any longer than 90min and it would have been too much. It feels quite similar to A Quiet Place: Day One in that regard, but it still holds up. The cast of characters is appropriately small for the scale of this film, which allows the script time and space to develop each of them - but perhaps not enough? The plot is simple but strong. The premise is not entirely original, but it's still really cool. What this film lacks is depth in the characters and storyline that comes through in the script; something that makes me care more about the characters. This film has the potential to leave me red-eyed and jaw-dropped at the end of a deeply emotional journey... but it just remains on the surface of being a cool movie. It is difficult not to compare Elevation to Krasinski's films because of the stark similarities. There's a whole monsterverse now of sensory-based monster films... (A Quiet Place, Bird Box, Elevation)... but I'm kinda here for it. If monsters and suspense are not your thing, this is a great primer for A Quiet Place. Mackie has something up his sleeve here though, because the ending sets up more story to be told. What concerns me about carrying this storyline forward is how weird it could get just because of the corner they have written themselves into. SPOILER ALERT The fact that the monsters are machines means that somebody had to have created them (which the characters realize in the end)... and we are likely to assume that the 'creators' are what we see falling from space in the credit scene. Now it's an alien movie. Not a monster movie. Now it's weird. And you'll have to work even harder for this to all make believable sense. The monsters were just not quite believable... not as believable as the monsters from A Quiet Place. (Sorry, another comparison.) These seemed more sci-fi/fantasy, less grounded in the real world (ha, oxymoron). Maybe a sequel will provide some clarity... It sounds like I'm tearing it down, but this film holds up. Sure, there are a few things with the script and character development, and some sfx moments, but it's a good time and a sincere story about a father making sacrifices for his son, and humanity enduring in the face of extreme trials and opposition. What's more inspiring than that?

The movie was really good. I love the twist at the end. The movie really leans you in to wanting to figure out what the creatures are and if they can be stopped. The movie has a lot of deep underlying meanings. I would recommend this movie. Love the refreshing concept

Before his new film as Captain America was released, Anthony Mackie starred in this scifi thriller. Like so many post-apocalyptic stories, there are a few survivors left struggling in small camps. In this case, they’re living above 8000 feet because the invasion of seemingly indestructible creatures can’t venture that high. Mackie and 2 women (Morena Baccarin & Maddie Hasson) set out below the line to find medicine and a way to kill the monsters. Their journey is full of expected events, making the movie completely predictable. Even so, there are a few moments genuine scares, plus plenty of running and shooting. As the genre goes, this film offers nothing new, but even with the obvious plotting, it proves moderately involving. NOTE: Sit thru the early credits for one final scene.

The modern “entertainment” industry is broken; broken in so many pieces. The main issue is the writing. Modern “stories” are poorly written with no concept of character, plot or theme. Additionally, modern “entertainment” is filled with long drawn out scenes of nothingness. Often it’s a scene where a character is brushing their teeth or driving. And then there are the long drawn out scenes where the camera is positioned on a character’s blank, emotionless face. You are watching the actor stare off into space with no expression that conveys anything. Is the character bored? Because I am! I’m bored watching this nonsense. And that describes this movie. Long drawn out scenes of nothingness. I was hoping for a decent suspense-thriller with a mystery box thrown in and Morena Baccarin, but I could not get past the boredom.

Unvetted garbage. In the first scenes they load the single bullet in the magazine BACKWARDS. They actually show ALL of this mistake in detail. The kid can't seem to breath but can RUN. They have primitive equipment and supplies yet have advanced oxygen systems for the kid. This movie was not reviewed prior to release by anyone with any intelligence whatsoever. Its basic woke Hollywood garbage made by clueless people that have never been in the woods and who live in condos in LA. Saying this movie only **** is being generous. Bad acting, bad directing, dumb story.

Much better than expected. You wouldn't think you could do much with a story about creatures who can't get you at high altitude, but they make it work in interesting ways, and create good, tense action sequences to boot. The production and cast aren't bad either, and while I'm sure this was a lower budget film, it really seems like it and punches above it's weight as a sci-fi thriller.

IN A NUTSHELL: The story is about a single father and two women who risk their lives in order to save the life of a young boy during a post-apocalyptic time in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado when strange aliens have killed 95% of the earth’s population. The film was directed by George Nolfi. Screenwriting credits go to John Glenn, Jacob Roman, Kenny Ryan. THINGS I LIKED: The presence of Anthony Mackie on the movie’s poster will definitely attract the attention of fans of his Falcon character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014. He does a great job and shows some impressive emotional depth. Morena Baccarin is always so glamorous and beautiful. I’ve never seen her look so disheveled like she does in this film (on purpose). She’s rough and tough and gives us a very different character than we’ve seen her do before. Other cast members include Maddie Hasson, Shauna Earp, and Danny Boyd Jr. The story offers tension and suspense with heart-pumping moments. The cinematography by Shelly Johnson is very good. There is a mystery to be solved about who these aliens are and what they are doing on Earth. The alien/monsters looked pretty cool and real. The tagline “Don’t go down without a fight” on the movie poster is clever because “going down” has double meaning. The movie was filmed in real places like at a ski resort in Colorado where they used real chairlifts, as well as in a real mine, a mile underground, that is in active use today. Impressive. The director did a great job telling a story but also asking a question to the audience: “Is the very technology and intelligence that helped us evolve and create great civilizations also driving us toward destruction?” THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE: There are some moments that are so bad that both my husband and I laughed out loud. All of the characters are ridiculously stubborn and often unlikeable. One of the characters is super annoying and acts like a know-it-all. For example, she’s supposed to be tough and skilled at marksmanship, but she breathes in deeply while aiming (which you’re supposed to do) and then the barrel of her rifle shakes like crazy when she actually shoots. Lame. The sound effects often don’t align with what we’re seeing on the screen. I love it when a director pays close attention to detail. In this film, a lot of things were missed. TIPS FOR PARENTS: The aliens might be too scary for young children. Profanity, including F-bombs Various weapons are used Talk of the death of millions of people A young boy has a serious medical condition that puts his life at risk, requiring medication that is running out. We see some violence that results in death.

I really like this movie! It was one of the more “intelligent” monster movies I have seen in a while. The actors were excellent, and I felt they helped elevate the movie. The plot was interesting to me and my friend, we cared about the three main characters as they set out on their quest to find medicine for one’s son and to find a way to defeat the monsters. Indestructible apex predators that emerged from the ground three years ago, and decimated 95% of the planet’s population. The monsters were not schlocky in my opinion. The movie’s title comes from the fact that the monsters cannot survive above 8,000 feet of elevation. I would recommend it.
