From Romero’s original zombie series to the films it inspired, this type of horror succeeds when it laces its scares with biting social commentary, and “Cargo” utilizes this formula to great success.

Nevertheless Cargo is a very strong, at times stirring achievement: a zombie film with soul and pathos.

One of the best movies I've ever seen. I don't get emotional that easily, but the ending of Cargo was the most emotional moment I've ever had watching a movie.

What an amazing movie. It's so sad.
Everything about this movie is remarkable!
Specially Freeman's acting skills

Given how many zombie stories are basically elaborate wish-fulfillment video games, about blowing away targets, hoarding supplies, and finding a safe spot, Cargo’s quiet acknowledgement that suicide might be a kind option for the infected feels revelatory and even dangerous.

Co-directors Ben Howling and Yolanda Ramke (the latter of whom wrote the screenplay) sacrifice some tension with their more character-based approach, but the cumulative effect is emotionally powerful.

Perhaps the highest compliment I can pay it is that I think George A. Romero himself would have liked it.

The sluggish pacing and digressionary plot elements make the proceedings feel as slow as the gait employed by the film's undead supporting characters.

Freeman gives a little something to moments of angst. But seriously. Yawn. It’s a movie so familiar in its tropes, storybeats and dialogue that it feels like a half-forgotten picture or TV show you’ve already seen. The makeup is often “Walking Dead” mediocre.

Some novel ideas in this, but not enough is done with them. Martin Freeman is quite good. I have a strong feeling I won't remember this very well in a few months.

With sincerity I think this should have stayed like a short-film. The way in which the most important events of the first hour take place like everything that happens to his wife are so unlikely that they border the ridicule.
At least it ends with strength.

I really don't understand the positive rating this movie gets. It is definitely average at best. Sure it does some things right in terms of the character potential (mind you it's just just that they have the potential to be good and charisma) and the setting as well as atmosphere. However the characters are just stupid, there's no other way of putting it. The whole movie would be preventable if the characters had thought before they do something. The dialogue and actions of some of the characters are also very questionable. It feels like A movie cinematography wise, A movie premise and C at best characters, dialogue and execution.
