I quite liked this film, it was certainly better than its predecessor. I particularly liked the main character’s story. The setting was great and realistic, and the direction was decent enough. There could have been more suspense and more terror induced by the priestly character. I the end I liked it enough to watch it again!

Not a bad movie. The cult-like approach was okay, but I guess it could have been more tense. Sebastian's confused storyline adds something new to the story. But what I like about the movie is the ending and possible sequel.

The only redeeming quality of the first movie was Sandra Bullock, and now you make this? Please give me my 2 hours back.

Bird Box Barcelona This spinoff to the 2018 Bird Box tries to expand the Bird Box universe with a new plot and characters, but the route taken here isn't as thrilling or spellbinding as the first movie. This constant change of timeline in this sequel doesn't do it justice, and it's even more frustrating that even though it tries to show a backstory to the protagonist, it ends up unsatisfactory. The story drags on and leads to a very predictable end. There are barely any characters to root for in this, and this makes the movie devoid of tension. It's also annoying that most of the characters approach the situations they find themselves in in a juvenile manner, which is unbecoming for people that have survived for that long. For all the plot and direction failings, Bird Box Barcelona is acted well, but there's only so much that good acting can offer when the story is bland. 5/10

IN A NUTSHELL: After an entity of mysterious origin annihilates the world's population, causing those who observe it to commit suicide, Sebastian and his daughter begin their own great adventure of survival in Barcelona. The dystopian thriller was directed by David Pastor and Alex Paster. They also wrote the movie together. On a personal note, I lived in Spain for a couple of years, so I was intrigued and wanted to see if we'd get to see the beautiful parts of Spain. Spoiler: We don't really get to see Spain's beauty in this movie; instead, we see trashed everyday streets. THINGS I LIKED: The cast does a great job and includes Mario Casas, Georgina Campbell, Diego Calva, Naila Schuberth, Alejandra Howard, Lola Duenas, and more. We get to learn a little bit more about the mysterious creatures, although we still don't get to see them. If you enjoy this franchise, you'll be happy to know that the door opens just enough to offer another sequel after this one. The protagonist struggles and we see his motivation blinds him more than his eye coverings. We also get to see some character growth. The set designs are great. THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE: Part of the problem with this sequel is that we already know the danger, mostly, so the tension isn't nearly as high as what we experienced in the first movie with Sandra Bulloch. I didn't like any of the characters. That makes it extremely difficult to emotionally connect with anyone enough to care. Some bad CGI moments. I hate it when movies make religious people look like creepy wackos. Some viewers might get confused by the jumping around in time. There are some serious plot holes. TIPS FOR PARENTS: This is not an appropriate movie for kids. Profanity and many F-bombs Lots of bloody, gory deaths. We see a lot of people commit suicide in various ways. Lots of dead bodies. Lots of blood Violence.

Welcome back, Streamers! This week in unnecessary sequels: Netflix released the sequel to the wildly popular 2018 film Bird Box called Bird Box: Barcelona. I didn’t know anyone wanted this sequel, but here we have it anyway. As a refresher, Bird Box starred Sandra Bullock in a post-apocalyptic time when mysterious creatures cause people to commit suicide after the person has looked at them. Therefore, in order to survive, one must either remain indoors in a place without windows or blindfold themselves when they venture outdoors. Bird Box: Barcelona has two main differences. It’s set in Spain, and the main character, Sebastian (Mario Casas), has a secret darker than the blindfold he wears. Marco-Polo-like hijinks ensue. Okay, let’s cut to the chase: Bird Box wasn’t good in the first place. Am I right? Fast forward a few years, and now we have this sequel that’s almost as equally just okay. The saving grace of this film is the switched perspective of the main character. In Bird Box, we are automatically on Sandra Bullock’s side because she’s Sandra Bullock and she’s trying to get to safety with some young kids. Here, Sebastian is more mysterious, and his motivations are not initially clear. This change is what makes Bird Box: Barcelona seem like less of just a retread and more of a level up. In fact, this movie feels like a higher level in a Bird Box videogame where new rules, new villains, and a better setting is revealed. If you remember the original, then you’ll pick up on some key differences early on. Also, While Barcelona is a great setting for this sequel, it is not made very distinctive in this movie. It could be any old European city, which is good as they are creepy, but it’s not specific to Barcelona enough. Nevertheless, the setting is vast and the horror of the situation is depicted throughout the city as it is littered with bodies and destruction. There is action, but there are really only two chase scenes that are entertaining. Honestly, it is a ridiculous premise that you have to buy into or everything about this movie is dumb. Also, it’s not scary in anyway, which is not a good thing for a supposed horror movie or even a thriller. Nevertheless, I will say that since it is in Spanish for a majority of the time, it feels less stupid and more mysterious and entertaining. Note: If you haven’t seen the original since 2018, I suggest not watching it or refreshing your memory about it prior to watching Bird Box: Barcelona. This sequel will be more surprising and engrossing without the refresher. Ultimately, Bird Box: Barcelona sticks with the same ridiculous premise of Bird Box, but the changed perspective of the main character makes the effort worthwhile. The setting is also a big plus for this sequel even if it doesn’t feel unique to Barcelona. There is decent action, but there aren’t really any memorable scares. If you can continue to suspend disbelief with this sequel, then you should enjoy this movie enough for a bowl of popcorn.

Bird Box: Barcelona fails in what its predecessor fails, narrative fluidity. Although it's visually better made than the first and presents better characters, this sequel fails due to its weak script and its lack of surprises. And worst of all, is that it does not make clear several issues that were left in the air in the first film. Bottom line, it's like A Quiet Place got bad reviews.

In 2018, Sandra Bullock starred in the original film about a mysterious presence (aliens?) that causes people who observe it to kill themselves. This sequel plays out during that same time in Spain, where a father and his daughter are struggling to survive. An addition layer of mystery is added with a potential spiritual awakening. There are numerous scenes of suicides and violent fights that are effectively staged. Most of the action is relatively tense, although the subplot does raise confusion. The added mystical element only serves to ramp up perplexity without affecting the tension. This spinoff is passable without being especially anxious or new.

Bird Box Barcelona suffers from the similar lack of effectiveness of its predecessor. The primary weakness lies in the absence of fresh ideas beyond its core premise. While it attempts to develop upon the concept explored in the film starring Sandra Bullock, the salvageable content beyond the initial notions is minimal. Instead of taking the narrative in new directions, the plot circles around familiar elements, incorporating religious fanaticism by picking up on a key element from the first film, until it reaches a conclusion that leaves everything up in the air. The intention is more than obvious: to set the stage for a possible third film, but the entertainment value offered by this installment is shaky and ultimately unsatisfying. Was this movie necessary? Absolutely not, but when has that ever stopped them?

Heads up, do not watch this film under any circumstances, I don't know what this movie is, and I don't know if it's a true sequel, hell I didn't even finish watching it. I lost interest when they decided to go to the castle in the mountain. This film is boring, poorly edited, and just not interesting, Its like being punched in the face everytime you try and follow along with the plot. A movie like this does not deserve a detailed overview of its quality, the only thing good about this film is the environment, It's not too bad, but everything else is just so poorly done, Everything you name it. Characters, Plot, Story, Pacing, cinematography, dialogue, nothing really helps it. 3/10, Some visuals Are nice but what's the point if the film is terrible overall? I watched the first Bird Box Movie, it is definitely better than this, so watch that. Please do not waste your time, dare I say it, watch Nimona instead, definitely Extraction 2. Netflix, I don't know who you are hiring to film and direct your film content, but this is literally the definition of trash. Do you think that people are blind and can't see the quality of a film in just a mere 20 - 30 minutes, I will not finish this film and waste my time. Do better or don't do at all. The only reason why I still have a Netflix account is because I was binge-watching Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. I'm just gonna say it again, just in case someone reads this review and can't read well, DO. NOT. WATCH. THIS. MOVIE. There I have saved you.

A totally forgettable sequel (or whatever). Worst of all is Mario Casas' character and his terrible acting.
