This low-rent, convoluted tale about a young woman returning home to solve the mystery of her mother’s violent death is amateurish to the extreme.

This needlessly incoherent thriller treats its convoluted nonsense with grave seriousness. It's mawkish, maudlin, and tongue-tied — countless scenes end with characters excusing themselves to go to bed, and you may want to join them.

If the ostensible thriller contained a single believable moment, let alone an ounce of suspense, its nonsensical final twist might be grounds for concern.

It’s a poorly acted grab bag of shopworn ideas and hyperbolic behaviors that not even Ryan Murphy could translate into entertainment.

Awakened May not be a very good film but it's well-written and well-performed by the casts. It's a decent horror-thriller film that generates (not in a big amount or small amount of eeriness and scares) but an adequate amount of that which makes it quite enjoyable to be watched.
