There’s some solid action throughout, with sequences that vaguely approach James Bond in their silliness.

Ad Vitam is competently shot and cut and works well enough for long enough stretches to recommend. But equally long stretches of training and graduation and karaoke celebrating kill its momentum.

Mostly forgettable. Some of the action scenes are ok, but most of the film seems pretty pointless. I wouldn't watch it again!

The minimal plot purports to endorse spartan storytelling, but after a promising start the movie detours into an overlong flashback. This may be to give Franck emotional weight, but it only creates belly fat.

Ad Vitam, which in Latin means “for life,” is at times brisk but narratively unclear, delivers its share of action, but not the characters to keep you emotionally invested.

Guillaume Canet (who looks like a French Patrick Dempsey) plays a former cop whose pregnant wife (Stéphane Caillard) is kidnapped. Turns out he has incriminating documents that reveal shocking secrets. Thus begins the frantic search to save the day. But not before an extended flashback that sets up the personal relationships. Much of this narrative is predictable, but Canet's performance adds impact (he also wrote the screenplay). Most impressive is his daredevil bounding over Parisian roofs. The rest of the action is decent, but the middle section slows the momentum. As a by-the-numbers chase thriller, this one hits some of the elements, but the thrills are hindered by too much personal drama.

Thought i was getting an action packed French spy thriller after the first 15 minutes. But its just a bizarre hour flashback and pointless side character buildup to a pretty standard climax. Overthought and underwhelming.Completely random paragliding sequence did its best to save the movie.

The film is made up of 60% flashback—painfully slow and of questionable usefulness (since it adds absolutely nothing to the story; if the goal was to give background on what happened in the first 15 minutes, it completely fails)—and the remaining 40% consists of scenes that severely lack action, despite what the trailer led you to believe. On top of that, the director clearly lacks skill, constantly shaking the camera “for style,” even though it’s always at the wrong moments. The soundtrack is genuinely awful, and Guillaume Canet should really stop trying to play action heroes—he’s just not cut out for it. All in all, a forgettable film.
