Zoria: Age of Shattering
Zoria: Age of Shattering is a commendable effort in what is an extremely competitive genre. In choosing not to focus heavily on narrative, and instead setting out to provide a satisfying loop of exploration and fast-paced combat that continuously moves you forward, Tiny Trinket Games has managed to provide a CRPG experience that feels fresh. In choosing not to try and go toe-to-toe with the genre’ heavyweights, Zoria: Age of Shattering carves out its own deserved space in the collections of CRPG fans and serves as a welcome alternative for those seeking out new adventures.
Zoria is doing a lot of stuff. It'll remind you of Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age, Lord Of The Rings, even Terry Brooks' weird fantasy books, and a bunch of it is done well, and in interesting ways. But in other cases the ambition has stretched beyond breaking point. But you kind of love your terrier even though it pisses on your cushions sometimes, right?
Zoria: Age of Shattering is a product of love and passion from Tiny Trinket Games. The game features a deep narrative, complex tactical combat, base building, and so much more. However, the lack of QoL-features brings it down: the highs are exhilarating, but the lows can feel a bit too draining.

Overall, Zoria: Age of Shattering is an engaging tactical RPG with a few drawbacks involving its presentation and graphics. It offers a wide range of player choice and class synergies, and the survival mechanics add to this. I had to genuinely think hard about prioritizing party survival, creating new weapons/armor, or upgrading my fort. Tiny Trinket Games is a small indie team working in a complex genre, and I hope to see them accomplish more in the same vein; their passion is palpable. Zoria won’t shatter your expectations, but it will meet them if you relish the clever interplay of turn-based combat, survival, and crafting systems.

Zoria: Age of Shattering has the makings of a good CRPG. The game has hooked me, and I want to see where the story goes next, even if it is so far standard fare for a fantasy game. I like making the tactical decision of what Character to bring while exploring and how best each class can help me during combat and while encamped. But I still need to find that feeling of being fully engaged in the world, and that is because Zoria: Age of Shattering is missing some quality-of-life additions and polish. But even without that, it snagged me into exploring one more area and upgrading my keep one more time before I quit for the night. For $24.99, it's a decent pickup if you are looking to try a new CRPG.
