Ultimately, it feels like Wreckreation tries to be too many things at once. An open-world setting allows for a lot of room for players to create events using the Live Mix tools, but driving between events gets dull quickly. As a conventional racing game, the rubber-banding AI makes me lose interest quickly, and the game doesn't emphasize the Live Mix content as strongly as it arguably should. It's a fun enough game, and it's smaller in scope since it was made by a smaller team. It lacks a defining feature of its own that it really focuses on, and it ends up making the game feel more like an imitation of other games.

There's little variety in the 400-square-kilometre American midwestern locale where everything takes place, and roads rarely feel optimised to test your handling skills. [Issue#418, p.112]

Wreckreation, a game with a vision beyond the developer’s abilities, serves as a prime example of a game released too early. This feels very much like a beta release. If fundamental aspects of the game don’t work properly, players cannot enjoy ambitious world-building features like Live Mix. To their credit, the developer is engaged in bug fixes and has published a roadmap of upcoming patches. However, these fixes may come too late to keep players engaged. For Burnout fans, wait for the next game, or until they fix the bugs in this one.

Nostalgic gameplay is marred by poor game design, numerous bugs and glitches, and possibly the worst map Ive seen in a videogame. The tunnels are so dark, all the shadows are clipped into pure black plus there is a vignette so you're driving blind, plus issues with low contrast around dusk/dawn or any kind of rain, visibility is often horrible. The giant red checkpoints you drive through obscure traffic. Computer cars glitch out constantly and traffic has weird behavior too, some races are bugged and you cant start them. Despite all this, the game really has fun moments and this is all fixable probably, although the poor shadow detail would require a major lighting update and some issues like the time/weather visibility are inherent to the game design.

I am a Sticler when it comes to Racing games, and this game gets half right and half wrong. I see the appeal of making Tracks and going fast around loops, meeting up with friends(who don't know this game even exists) and having a fun multiplayer Racing experience. This open world doesn't offer too much besides an area to create Tracks and do some basic exploration. Besides all that, this game suffers from quite a lot of stuff that hinders the experience. Like the constant stuttering, performance issues and just bland feeling gameplay, like the basic feeling of the landing while going off a ramp...that is not even there.
Then the gameplay, and while yes, it is an arcade racer, it doesn't feel great to drive unless you are going straight with speed. That's the only thing going for it. This definitely feels like Burnout, but if Burnout had lost 50% of the dev team and just made a game based on memory alone. I bet some people are saying what system I played on since I got a bad experience.
RYZEN 5 3600, RTX 3060, and my super-fast Gen 4 Muskin SSD.
Yeah, I think I'm fine with my Hardware. This game is just Unoptimized thanks to Unreal Engine. 5/10, it needs something more, something different. If I want the whole Arcade/Ramp experience of going fast, I think that Hotwheels Unleashed, the gam, does it better. That game hit all the right notes, like splitscreen, vehicle collecting, arcade racing, building races, etc., with nicer graphics and better performance. I do see the potential here, but it's not enough for me to bolster the score to a 6/10, at least not yet. If were to give the team advice on what to build next, hint, look at the past burnout games and evolve them into something new, that's something everyone is waiting for. Make your own IP, something new that can rival NFS and Burnout.
Because this isn't it, Chief, because if you don't, someone will.

From the creators of pretty bland and bad games comes a new... pretty bland and bad game. Driving feels off, the graphics are okay'ish at best and the atmosphere equals that of a doctors' office. Basically, the developers continue in being great at making less than average games.

If you love the freedom and chaos of open-world driving but hate being bogged down by plotlines or filler, Wreckreation is exactly what you’ve been waiting for. The game handles driving pretty well, offers a fair amount of activities that embrace the chaos of virtual driving, and lets you build your own tracks, and somehow manages to do all of it seamlessly, with no menus or load times in between.

While Wreckreation still needs work to get the remaining kinks out, there's still a hugely entertaining racer once you get used to the fact that there's no reasonable way to expect Burnout Paradise-levels of polish. It's the kind of game you can spend half a day listing its flaws and the other half having a great time playing, bashing opponents into scrap metal while seeing what kind of trouble you can find or create. Wreckreation shoots for the stars and doesn't quite make it, but it's hard to complain when drifting a mountain road's switchback at two hundred miles per hour or building a series of ramps up a mountain just because you can. It's a lovely peaceful world in the countryside of Wreckreation, but with a little bit of creative mayhem, that's a problem it won't have for long.

The game is exactly what was promised to me. Empty map? Fill it with your own tracks and stunts. So much stuff to find and use afterwards. So many challenges. And this enormous sense of speed. I love it <3

I love how much it feels like burnout, feels like a mix of revenge and point of impact, It just needs more ironing and polishing, it has real potential and after that all it’s missing is a licensed soundtrack like the good old days but I know that probably costs a lot of money so I have my burnout playlists in the background and really it’s an absolute vibe, one thing that particularly bothers me is in some road rage events in snowy weather it can be almost impossible to even just get the goal let alone a bronze trophy, if the team keeps at it this game will be perfection, I honestly can’t wait for dlc and then there next wreckreation game, with the hole in the market I hope these guys get a hit series on their hands, it’s these passion projects that really keep the genre alive so good on them for making a game like this with a team of 10 devs.

Wreckreation is a more than decent open-world arcade racing game. The driving system works well, as does the editor that lets players create custom events and tracks. Unfortunately, the game feels somewhat bland in terms of visuals and, beyond the editor, does very little to set itself apart from its competitors.

Wreckreation captures flashes of Burnout’s celebrated, high-speed chaos, but too often crumbles under the weight of its own ambition. Its playground of racing and destruction can be stimulating in short bursts. But underneath the hood, technical hiccups, uneven design, and the lack of crash junctions restrain any high-octane potential.

So, what would a game combining Forza Horizon, Burnout and Trackmania look like? Exactly like Wreckreation. It's not revolutionary, but it's a well-executed and fun mix with a strong sense of speed.

All in all, Wreckreation is an arcade racing game that takes good advantage of the "creation" part but does less well when it comes to actually competing and driving. After cruising around the large map and discovering most of it, playing with the objects at my disposal, I've parked my car for good and don't regret doing so.

Who at THQ thought "yea we gotta publish that" The handling makes zero sense, the game is just made out of awful assets and tries to copy Burnout at every single corner. it **** in doing so because you have a open world map with basically 0 barriers. the handling is really sluggish and the physics are just all over the place. Hard Pass
