Dakka Squadron is a simple yet enjoyable aerial shooter chock-full of rather silly humor. You can give it a try if you’re into Warhammer 40,000, but be warned that its basic gameplay becomes repetitive in longer sessions. [05/2021, p.35]

Dakka Squadron’s fast, varied, and challenging aerial combat make it a lot of fun, but it’s so singularly geared towards a specific audience that it’s hard to recommend to anyone who doesn’t already know their squigs from their squiggoths. Otherwise, it’s the most fun I’ve had playing a Warhammer 40k action game since Relic’s Space Marine.

This is a review from someone who had their first contact with the Warhammer series and was simply looking for an arcade-style “dogfight” game with a single-player campaign.Well, starting with the tutorial, I got the impression that the game had a lot of potential within its intended scope: the controls are simple, the maneuvers feel satisfying, the offensive gameplay is pretty much what you would expect, the characters are amusing, there’s a great rock soundtrack, and the graphics are good (and, overall, still hold up in **** you progress through the campaign, however, the gameplay turns out to be basically the same as what you experienced in the tutorial, with very little progression as you move forward. This makes it quite repetitive. The ship upgrades aren't particularly meaningful either, and you never really get a sense of progression. The enemies don't offer much variety either, with most of the variation coming from the **** for the story, I wasn't expecting much, given that the setting is essentially centered around war and battles, but the dialogue is long and annoying (despite the good voice acting).I eventually abandoned the campaign. Maybe the multiplayer is more satisfying and fun, but unfortunately I couldn't find any online match to try. I can't recommend the single-player experience.
