Wanted: Dead is evocative of a mid-tier 6th console generation hack & slash game in all the right ways, as well as all the wrong ones too.

It’s easy to rip into Wanted: Dead. Basically, everything about this game is bad, except for the bloody finishing moves. Which, incidentally, were the main thing touted by the trailers. [page 58]

In Wanted: Dead, gameplay is frustrating, levels are the same and generic, there is no variety of enemies, combat possibilities are very limited and the music and atmosphere are forgettable.

Wanted: Dead has style, anime cutscenes, weird B-movie charm… and painfully confused combat. It can’t decide if it wants to be a hack-and-slash or a shooter. Melee combos feel weak, guns feel worse, and enemies tank headshots like it’s nothing. The AI is rough, encounters get repetitive fast, and by chapter two I was already bored. Cutscenes look cool, but gameplay just isn’t satisfying. It feels rushed and unpolished despite the obvious effort. If you want stylish action that actually works, replay Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance instead.

I uninstalled the game after 30 minutes. When you die you not only need to backtrack you also need to set all changes to skill trees and weapons AGAIN. What a stupid ass game director is responsible for this? Waste of time ill go to youtube and watch the cutscenes instead cause atleast the character designs are great

This game does not deserve a t'en, of course. Just did this to compensate. Normaly, I'd give it more like a 7. It was not made for everybody. More for the 80 and 90's gamers that enjoyed classic action games. Its a tribute to all these games and this era. From shinobi to ninja gaiden to max payne.. I started imediatly the storymode on hard and was not disapointed. I realy enjoyed the gameplay exept for some bug and for the camera wich can be terrible during some fights in close space. We are on october 9th 2024 so the game might be (way?) more playable than it was when released. I put this note to five strength to the studio wich I support since à long time for their work. Its a good game but only if you like both that era and kind of game. Now its a pity that game did not have enough time and budget. But I still love to have it in my collection.

A genuinely gleeful throw back to a time when gaming was jsut starting to bring the best of out the fifth and sixth generation console era. Wanted: Dead draws on eighties and nineties influences and dives head first into a riotous hack and slash that screams style.

Wanted: Dead is a great action game, it has flashy visuals, violent combat full of blood and dismemberment, and mostly it has a great interesting if unusual story, carried by interesting characters, external influences and sinister plot. The world is built in a cool, refreshing way and the moment-to-moment gameplay is engaging though sometimes simple. It promises something unique, and it delivers something not only unique but recommendable to fans of futuristic worlds and action games.

Wanted:Dead is a very fun throwback action title but it comes with fundamental design flaws like a goth kid in school trying to look normal among his peers. Wanted:Dead is a not a normal game, not by a long shot. Very recently I played Valkyrie Elysium made by the same developer and both games feel very similar in terms of blandness. Valkyrie Elysium is a conservative RPG with good story and decent gameplay but it falls flat when creativity comes into play. There’s no creativity In Valkyrie Elysium, it feels tamed, most likely restricted by Square Enix. Like many other Square Enix titles these days, Valkyrie takes no chances and therefore loses its ability to wow. Wanted:Dead tries hard to be normal and very boring and stay in its lane but occasionally pulls the leash and delivers insane amounts of creatively satisfying content. The story is barely there and it’s very hard to follow and I was bored by the cutscenes until suddenly some artistic spark started coming out of the scenes at the cantina or the scene at the noodle bar. These moments make the game shine bright with charm and personality. Insane executions while wearing cat ears, face smudged in blood and then a quick smoke if you leave the controller idle. Real joy mixed with anger from the final mission that drags on forever. As a note I want to add that this game deserves way more love that it gets. Wanted:Dead is far from mediocre and this game has balls to be different in the day and age when all games are standardised and measured to feel exactly the same. 7/10

Wanted: Dead starts off strong with plenty to learn and enjoy, but towards the end bogs itself down by trying to be difficult, forgoing what made it good to begin with.

A trip back in time in both good and bad ways, Wanted: Dead is bad, but intentionally so. There is sure to be a crowd that will enjoy this PS2 throwback, but it won't hold the attention of modern gamers for long.

Wanted: Dead promised a violent action game, with a badass style and unexpected mechanics, but instead we've found a frustrating experience that rarely had any fun. We cannot recommend it.

Wanted: Dead feels like a callback to the worst games of the Xbox/PS2 era. The game has a distinct lack of polish when it comes to its enemy design, and, combined with the horrid voice acting and confusing storyline that's only explained through supplementary material, it feels like the ultimate case of wasted potential that could've become something better had the developers put a bit more thought into it.

This is truly a 15 / 10 masterpiece. 1 point for the magnificent plot 2 for the perfect editing, 0.5 for the random anime flashbacks, 0.5 for the 0.5 scale of props in the police gym, 4 points for each ball in the Herzog's joke, 3 points for each time a visualization of a collider for mech wasn't turned off, -5 for the sound design. It just doesn't work in scenes. It gets cut, played in the wrong moments, etc. 9 for each time I wanted to commit war crimes because of the checkpoint placement. It is the "best" part of the game, when you have to repeat 40 minutes of the gameplay after dying from the last enemy in the 6 waves! Unlikely, anyone from the development team will read this, but still... Seriously speaking, I get the inspiration from MGR. If you are able to continue working on the game series, look, what works there more. Both in terms of plot and gameplay. For example, parrying from Sekiro in your game is better, then there, yet it is impossible to do anything with enemy bullets. And there is a lot of small things to make the sequel a beloved game. I've been learning game programming myself, and I get some issues aren't easy to fix without any money. However, this doesn't mean, that you have to give up. Even small changes with patches can make it much less frustrating - sound fix, add checkpoints is big sections, scale some props (gym is just super funny). Of course, some things like editing or plot structure can't be fixed already, unfortunately. Are you looking for any interns for the summer 2023? I would like to try myself in a company like yours, seems like you had fun developing this. I have some experience with UE5, C++, DirectX12.

So I've sat on reviewing this game since I played it right at release and I had fun with the game even with some of the bugs that were present I saw the game as what it was a homage to games I used to see everywhere. Wanted Dead has a commitment to its style that I appreciate and more than that it is important to note the developers didn't abandon anything with this game there has been updates to address bugs tweaks to fights to even add more checkpoints and other small QOL adjustments.Gameplay wise this is an old school third person action game with a lot of speed and fluidity to combat once you really get through the skill tree and you can become a walking death march which a ton of fun. The cast of characters are ripped from the cheese of B action movie and there are mini games that you can just sink time into (so much in fact that the shump got a standalone release to indulge in)In the end I do recommend this game I had fun with it but I am the target auidence as well but a huge deal for me is the continued communication from the devs.

I went into this expecting the **** was pleasantly surprised. Most importantly I had fun! It’s silly and entertaining, a nice change from the norm. It’s ninja gaiden, yakuza, and maybe some final fantasy smashed into a weirdly fun game.
