The art is good and interesting. The story was pretty good but I won't finish it. Like a lot of other reviews I thought this had great potential. The puzzles weren't too difficult but what became annoying is the amount of backtracking and overlapping in the puzzles. Mix that with the precarious platforming and bad control recognition you find yourself dying an annoying amount of times. Which wouldn't be so bad if the game put you back right where you died but it usually pulls you back to a point where you have repeat the section of the puzzle you just solved only to get snuffed out real quick again. I can't tell you how many times I would almost finish a puzzle only to walk off a ledge because the textures were dark and I couldn't tell there was a ledge there. It just started to feel like a chore and not fun. I wanted to beat it but when it's no longer fun what is the point of playing? Also others praised the soundtrack but it really started getting on my nerves.

It’s an ok game. Visuals are ok and the ambience music is appropriate. Again devs put there eggs on the wrong basket. Gameplay is lacking. The control mechanics are bad. Jumps are floaty, targeting is annoying, platforming is not good, puzzles are ridiculous. In most of the puzzles, instead of thinking, you end up mashing buttons hoping to get lucky. Bad puzzle design. The character jump box is terrible.Story is ok. Overall and ok,so-so game.

The game had good potential, good vibe, great universe but the control, the platforming and the boring puzzle is why i give a 6/10.

It's pretty cool. Glad I gave it another chance. I had to do the whole space ship section at the beginning over, because I left and came back to the game in the middle of it and so I got lost. Better to do it in one go so you remember what you are doing. Presentation is the best part of the game and makes you want to continue on. I don't know what people are taking about the unresponsive controls. The controls do exactly what you press. It's stiff tho, on purpose. Game is going for a Flashback vibe but thank God they didn't emulate the controls exactly.

The game is an absolute masterpiece. It pays tribute so well to our early 90’s games but with more things on screen, wider. Some puzzles are hard af but the feeling of accomplishment is great. You feel like a boss. I loved the story, the sound design, and the gameplay. It makes you think all the time. The ONLY thing that made my life real harder was the controls. Man.. Sometimes they just didn’t work. When you tried to jump or move many many times. I don’t think it was a bug issue, more **** design choice, but it was annoying. Rather than that, EVERYONE that likes platform, puzzles and a nice story with a character with strong motive should play The Way.

This game is insane! The story is beautiful, the look is awesome, cool setting and challenging puzzles...sometimes they are too hard

Controls can be a little frustrating and some puzzles are not that intuitive, otherwise a fantastic puzzle/platformer game with both beatiful pixelart and soundtrack. The story may be simple but it is touching and overall the game is well worth its pricetag.

Dla mnie jest do dobra gra, ma swoją historię. Jest stylizowana na Another World, ale dobrze zrobiona. Przeszedłem ją całą chyba około 2 dni - więc jest wciągająca. Polecam.

Similar to Another World and does not disappoint. I spent a few hours playing. I can recommend it if you like games from the 90s.

Многие задачки в игре интересные, сама визуализация и идея нравится. Но местами задачки на микромоторику убивают. К примеру, прыжки по ступенькам с шипами рядом с генератором - бесят.

The Way: Remastered definitely feels like a blast from the past. It has some of the aesthetic of the original Sierra "Quest" games, which I have a lot of nostalgia for, but plays more like Flashback, which I played only recently. Like the latter, it has kind of clunky controls which work perfectly well for the most part, but just aren't designed for the more action oriented sequences. You will die a lot from poor platforming controls, but the checkpoints are generous and respawn is pretty much instantaneous. Still it loses a few point for that. Luckily, the puzzle design is on point and is just the right amount of challenge. On top of that, the story knocks it out of the park. It's really engrossing and well told and unfolds at the perfect pace. if you like this type of story driven adventure, give The Way a shot. You won't regret it.

To compare this game to any other game is insulting to those other games. The controls are so bad, I had to check if my controllers are faulty (tried with joy-cons and pro controller,) since the game would often register a false input, or no input at all. The in-game logic makes in mandatory to backtrack — a lot! That is a dangerous approach in any visually pleasing game with fun mechanics, in a game as ugly and boring as The Way Remastered, it is unforgivable. I had several system crashes, playing version 1.4.0. If this is the 'remastered' version, how bad was it before!?! The only challenges in this game are the controls and the crashes. The game must have heard me when I said, “if you crash one more time, I'll abandon you,” since it miraculously behaved well till I got to the end.

Wasted potential. I love the pixelart in this game, first 30 minutes were great, but after it you realize, that the game is based on totally random and cheap puzzles. It is not even hard, it's just moving objects without any logic, most of the time. I quit the game close to the end of it, after another stupid platform section, which was totally based on luck and trying over and over again. A lot of bugs too, some puzzles/enemies were out of sync a lot of time.

The gameplay deserves an 8 or something but the story, oh man the story even though it isn't the most original in the world it surely is told the best way possible hitting deep. This game is a masterpiece in the genre of "cinematic plstformer".

Lo único bueno de este juego es su nivel artísto. Su pixelart es bonito. Su jugabilidad es nefasta, parece tener una buena historia pero es tan aburrido que no te dan ganas de jugar....

Simple yet creative puzzle adventure game with a nice little story. The controls are not perfect by any means but it was not a big issue for me

I love the audio (the voiceovers), the music, the graphics, but the gameplay is really hard for switch controls. For example, in one scene I may play it again and again to succeed with countless lives because it's that hard. I just bought it for Php100 which is cheap but still a little bit much in our currency standards. Bought it just to add it to the collection of games but I think I going to let it rest first on my switch and when I have plenty of time I'm gonna play it again.

Mal control. Malísimo. Saltos malísimos. Impreciso.

This game's good, really. It's beautiful with its advanced 8-bit aesthetic and deep story, but pretty much no replay value.

Overall a good game with very smooth animations, great pixel graphics, decent plot, sometimes **** controls. It was a bit short, but for the price I got it and with -93% sale it was enough. I recommend this game, it is a good way into puzzle games. Last boss was quite unexpected but after a few tries it became clear what should I do and how many times xDD

The Way is a beautiful, atmospheric experience with very good art and some clever and well-thought puzzles that give you a sense of accomplishment when you solve them. Those elements along with its feeling-evoking story engaged me, despite some mildly frustrating action-based parts.

Beautiful soundtrack, compelling story and awesome pixel art style. It has some glitches here and there that may force you to reset (i only had one happen to me. Tincan wouldn't follow me back to the village when reaching a certain part of a bridge), but fortunatel there are a lot of checkpoints scattered all around. Also it's very cheap to get on the Switch.

While The Way Remastered has a gorgeous atmosphere with a pleasant ambient soundtrack and cool pixel art design, the controls are slippery and imprecise, leading to frequent deaths, sometimes compounded by inconvenient checkpoints. Additionally, many of the puzzles are bland, some of them drawing inspiration from the physical puzzle games Rush Hour and Lights Out, for example. All this is wrapped up with a generic story, centered around the girlfriend in freezer trope, and while the LucasArt-like text on-screen is a nice touch of nostalgia, the voice acting that delivers these lines is stilted. It's a disappointing experience altogether.

Just great, challenging and fun, voice acting could be a little better but I love the style of the game and the story told is deep

In my eyes, this game had potential. The setting is interesting and intriguing for scifi fans. However the gameplay is abysmal. It is a puzzle platformer. The puzzles are easy but that would not be a big deal if the platforming was fluid and well done. Sadly, the controls are utter garbage and will literally miss your input, generally lag and even do the opposite of what you want sometimes (this happens when climbing walls). Do not waster your time. You might get invested like I did to eventually have to give up and throw it out the window (I wish I could literally do that).

Wow. What a game. This game is a roller coaster of emotions. First of all the game looks stunning, it's detailed 16 bit art style will have you just staring and taking in the levels because of how georgous it is. It's clearly inspired by games like Another World which I personally don't have a problem with. The games story will have you interested and gripped from the start as it's so interesting. The characters also have great development and make you really feel for them. Puzzle wise, it's mainly fairly simple puzzles but sometimes it can be frustrating but a simple YouTube search will solve that. The only bad thing about this game is that sometimes the controls can be a little frustrating in some puzzles like the mirror shield (I think it's called that).
This is easily one of my favourite games and I highly recommend you check this out. The best £1 I've ever spent.

I really, really really wanted to like this game. I don't. (Reviewed version: 1.4.0) THE WAY REMASTERED is a badly made game. This must be the reason the game is constantly on sale. But don’t be fooled, even for 99 cents, it is a waste of your time and money! The game starts out slow, with lots of unnecessary long back tracking needed. The bland and plain boring look of the first section perfectly illustrates the repetitive and uninspired puzzles. This all might seem like something worth to endure to get to the more colourful locations promised by the marketing. (It isn’t.) So, what’s wrong with this game? The story, while generic, is not to blame. The art style isn’t either, even though it failed to deliver convincingly on the promised retro pixel art, thanks to the programmers not being able to resist to move said pixel art around. The sound effects are nice. The “music” is void of melodic content, it consists mainly of synthesizer pads and atmosphere. You might enjoy it when encountering a new area, but it gets old pretty fast. The voice acting is done well, even if it is annoying after a while. (If you still want to waste money on THE WAY REMASTERED, try it with the music turned down, and the voice acting turned off.) The gameplay is a bit of a problem. It often consists of solving an insultingly easy puzzle by acquiring a hint on one side of the level, telling you to back track dozens of screens, to find a hit area that was invisible if you had move to fast when encountering it before, only to have you traverse back to where you got the hint. This happens a lot. A LOT! Basically, that is the game. Where the game really drops the ball, is with the controls. One could forgive the back tracking and solving Professor Layton style puzzles scattered over several screens, but 99.9 % of your deaths are going to be because of the controls not taking your input. You will respawn instantly, often in close proximity of your demise (if you are lucky… ) only to die again, courtesy of sloppy controls. There are also still game breaking bugs in version 1.4.0 -- the game sometimes randomly decides it does not want to take any input, forcing a restart. It is rather interesting, how many reviewers mention that they played a patched version. One can only wonder how much worse this game must have been! I personally took note of the developers (Puzzling Dream), and will avoid their œuvre in the future. (I created an account just for this review, after YEARS of using metacritic, to warn other potential buyers how bad this game is.)

i found this game to be quite an adventure. It is a puzzle-plataformer with great puzzle solving and they're just hard enough to give a good challenge but not impossible. The story is very straight forward but it definitely intrigues you to want to finish it. I got it for $1.50 so if you can get at bargain price it's well worth it. The graphics are a neat pixel art form and with great sound effects and voice acting. No issue with controls whatsoever. All in all its a great indie game that you should add to your collection.

This game is terrible do not buy it. The controls are an unresponsive mess and the game is filled with game breaking bugs. Character not spawning, enemies not dying, scripted events breaking, emergency restart sending you back multiple level worth of progress randomly when it previously worked correctly. The worst purchase i have made on my Switch so far 0/10 do not buy!

The Way Remastered is full of nostalgia, from the pixelated landscape, to the LucasArts-esque typography, and the 2.5d perspective. It faithfully recreates the look and feel of the 16-bit, Amiga platform so perfectly, that old-school fans such as myself can’t help but be delighted right from the off. The graphics have clearly been lovingly created, and the backdrops of these alien worlds are ‘painted’ gorgeously, but some of the character artwork and animation (of the ‘assistant’ character, in particular) could have been more polished. I loved the way text labels faded into view as I got closer to the relevant object, and the viewport scrolled to reveal doors opened by switches that were far, far away — these little touches go a long way. I’d say at least 75% of the puzzles were engaging, and a good level of difficulty; some, unfortunately, were a let-down. At worst, the real challenge was understanding how the puzzle worked, rather than solving it. On one or two occasions, I gave up and ‘brute forced’ them by trial-and-error, which isn't too much fun, nor is it the sign of a well-designed puzzle. But the puzzles that work, especially the highly inventive tasks based around skills that you gain, are good fun if you like a bit of cognitive exercise. Some of the platforming takes frustration to a new level. I’m not sure how intentional that is, but it borders, at times, on masochistic. If you fall from about three times your own height, you die; call me wild and reckless, but I don’t think that would quite be the case irl. Some of the gaps that require you to jump only a little bit but not quite the-smallest-you-can are incredibly fiddly. And I don’t think I’ve ever played a game in which descending a ladder is so awkward. The enemies you’ll come across are varied and challenging but fair — the game is generous enough to leave them dead after one kill, most of the time. In fact, the game is also generous in restart points — which you’ll find are used a lot since the platforming and combat are so tough. Even though its short, The Way Remastered has a good, balanced difficulty level, and tests the player in a variety of ways. As someone who never played Another World or Flashback, it’s possibly a surprise I feel so nostalgic for this game. But it manages to get enough of the detail right, not only to recreate a memorable piece of the past, but also to add a suitable amount of flourish in the process. If a few more of the bigger downsides — length, fiddliness, some obscure puzzles — could be ironed out, The Way Remastered could be more than deserving of its full retail price. As it is, the frequent discount it sells at makes it an utter bargain.

Bargainous when I bought it on sale! Great bang for your buck. Everything about this game is derivative (the story, the looks, the puzzles) but it's all done to a high standard... Everything except the fiddly controls. There's a few levels late in the game that require dexterous jumping, shooting etc. that aren't even satisfying to complete because they're quite poorly thought through and just require loads of tries (and dies) until you memorise the sequence, rather than acquired skills. Sometimes the challenge doesn't match the mechanics (never got the hang of jumping super accurately). Kindof wish they'd hired some more voice actors, as there's at least one smaller character that sounds a lot like someone putting on a voice.

I really loved the game: the gameplay, the music, the story. What I don't like about it is that the ending felt rushed and absolutely unsatisfying.

Immersive game with some of the very best pixel art out there. The story is reminiscent of classical science fiction and it has quite some (unobtrusive) world building to add to that. I like atmospheric games that do put effort into storytelling (e.g. point&click adventures), so The Way was interesting for me in the first place. Gameplay consists mostly of puzzles and some action sections, and there is barely any repetitiveness in those; the whole game is varied and creative. I have played Another World, Flashback, Heart of Darkness, Oddworld, Blackthorne; but always lost interest after a few hours when these games became too repetitive. The Way is the first puzzle platformer that I have actually finished. Difficulty and fairness issues, or most unclear puzzles of previous versions of this game seem to be fixed or improved in this remastered version. You may need to consult a walkthrough a few times nevertheless, but otherwise it is possible to get through well (do expect some nerve-racking sections though.. but checkpoints are frequent). The game breaking bug upon Switch release is fixed. The ending was mildly, but not completely disappointing (you are still rewarded with beautiful new scenes) as it is rather foreseeable and doesn't respect the mystery that has been build up carefully before. Also it only mildly compensates for the sudden action sections you have to get through at the end, which will get unnerving due to the jumping controls that's accuracy do not exactly suit action.. Anyway, got through all these troubles and finished at 7 hours.

Good game and if you consider value for money (bought it for 3USD) great game! As a kid I played in Another World & Flashback. Here I have found similar climatic graphics & surounding with nice pixel art. Climatic music. Good mechanics. And most of all interesting and somehow emotional story. I hope that developer of this game will give us more small games on the Switch :)

Besides the nice pixel graphics, this game feels as average as it can get. Dull game play and rather boring questing, I'm not sure if I could recommend this game even to retro fans.

All in all, a good game flawed only by unprecise and sometimes unresponsive controls. Bought for 10 bucks and finished in >24hrs, still deserve the experience. The good: - Style: visually the best pixel art out there - Concept and setting: a lot of inspiration from sci-fi classic - Story: the struggle of a man that want to rejoin his wife The Bad - Controls: You will die A LOT cause of controls. Sometimes, they just don't accept your input, sometimes will double it (as happens during the hoverbike section) - Ending: I am really really displeased with the ending. It's rushed, and really doesn't fit well in the rest of the story. You can still enjoy the game, just wait a discount or sale. 10€ are really too much

Disclaimer: Before I start this review, I should point out that I will only review some of the first few hours of the game, because at some point after those few hours, the game crashed and did not save any of my progress, and as I will explain in this review, I did not enjoy the game enough to be willing to restart it. Gameplay: The Way is as I previously stated, a puzzle platformer, and luckily it is able to have a solid balance between eventful, fast-paced platformer moments with thoughtful puzzles. The platforming is quite challenging and you will die often, but it is never that bad as you are instantly sent back to the last checkpoint, which is always nearby, at the push of a button, similarly to Super Meat Boy. However, the platforms themselves are standard and occasionally you feel that all your deaths have come due to the characters slow somewhat clunky jumping. The puzzles in the game are clever and make you feel good when you solve them and they also manage to be simple enough that you don’t find yourself resorting to guides for the game. The only problem with some of them is that they take place over large areas that require lots of going back and forth which is made worse by the slow movement of your character. Story: One of the games biggest selling points is its story which follows Tom, a man whose wife has just died, but he has research from his work leading to another planet that holds the secret for eternal life and he plans on using this secret to bring back his wife. What I like about the story is that Tom never directly states his goal, but you can figure it out from reading his notes and watching the first scene in the game where he digs up his dead wife. Unfortunately, I cannot review the rest of the story because as I already said, the game crashed and did not save any of my progress, but I can say that it seemed intriguing. Graphics: The graphics are the usual pixel style that most indie games use and it does look good. Also, all the movements are smooth and the backgrounds are animated and lively. The atmosphere is also good and is reminiscent of Metroid, and there are never any instances of the framerate dropping. Overall: In the end, the game is very standard and though it does not do much that a bad game would, it does not do anything you haven’t done in another, more encapsulating game and it should also be noted that the big progress deleting crash that happened to me could happen to anyone which is likely as the game only autosaves and offers no way to save the game yourself. In the end I would give the game a 6.5 out of 10 and I would only recommend the game to you if you are particularly interested in it or really enjoy puzzle platformers. If you’re in one of those categories then I would say the game is worth your money as it is only about $11.99 and from what I have read offers around 7-10 hours of gameplay, hoping that the game does save your progress.
