Visually there's nothing like it--it is a purely artistic endeavor and as shooters go there's nothing here not to love. [Dec. 2006, p.81]

A decent, short-term hack'n'blast that's best with two players who like old-school games, but a far cry from today's big action titles. [Apr 2007, p.77]

Worth 20 quid? For no-nonsense arcade thrills, just about. Worth two years' wait? Sadly, not quite. [May 2007, p.70]

The passion put in it makesthe game stand out from the other ones, greatly crafted and purely majestic

A really well done game in the highly underrepresented genre top down four direction shooter mixed with beat em up. There is no game like this AND this game is great. Controlls are very responsive, fight is fun not too complex and not too simple, levels are not very spectacular but okay, enemies show a great variety and the camera changing smoothly within the level from side-scroll style to top down to isometric style is very cool. I don't mind that it is pretty short and the saving points are only at the end of each level, because this is the old school type of game you like to master and play as often until you are perfect. If you can go with this type of games, buy The Red Star!

Based on a comic book The Red Star has well-designed setting despite subpar graphics (even for the PS2). It's a nice and simple beat 'em up with RPG elements and the gameplay is still very enjoyable. The best thing is that most of the combo moves are inspired by philosophical works or concepts!

The game can grow repetitive over time, but being able to use three multitalented superheroes helps the game significantly -- especially with two players working together. In addition, the graphics and sound excel, and at only $20, it's an essential purchase.

Whilst The Red Star might lack the polish of newer titles and suffers from some design flaws, the gameplay at its heart is absolutely rock solid and will conjure up memories of games gone by for the more discerning and mature gamer.

The graphics are what you'd expect from a PS2 game, with a nice gloomy futuristic style. For only $20, The Red Star is a great example of why the PS2 still rocks, and why old school gaming is far from dead.

If you are a gamer that still sheds a little tear for the long lost "Streets of Rage" or "Final Fight" days then this game might please you by bringing back some fond memories. My verdict would be that it delivers nothing new despite the claims and just becomes a little boring and repetitive too quickly.

The warfare is as dull as the characters. [June 2007, p.101]

Excelente híbrido que combina mecánicas beat em up y shmup. 3 estilos diferentes a elegir y un sistema de mejoras interesante le otorgan una gran rejugabilidad.

SummaryOver the course of several generations, the once mighty empire known as The United Republics of The Red Star (U.R.R.S.) slaughtered millions of its own people by the order of a single man. This man was their leader, Imbohl; a mighty sorcerer whose insanity turned his people's Utopian dreams into a nightmarish scheme driven by the desire ... Read More
