The Pathless is not a big game and doesn't want to gamble too much, but knows which aspects to really bet on. The heart of the game experience is exploration and does a good job of making you fully enjoy the rides and flights over its small but fascinating world.

The Pathless is a really entertaining game from the creators of Abzû. The game lets you explore a vast world with a huntress and her eagle. Saving the world is no terrible job since the world is truly amazing, but the lack of enemies and the lack of unlockables don't really invite you to do. Where everything in the game is balanced really good from the puzzles to the boss fights, you get the feeling something is missing eventually. The game is great but could be much, much more than this.
The Pathless is a visual stunner that lets you explore its gorgeous world via an innovative and fun traversal mechanic. It may be modest in scale, but the platformer leaves a big impact courtesy of smart puzzles and exciting boss battles.

Giant Squid have released yet another classic banger. I have been wanting to play this one for a long time. I remember the trailers, and how this was one of the first PS5 games, along with Demon Souls Remake and Returnal. I knew it would be a relatively short, and lower budget experience, so I only purchased the game in early December 2025 (i.e. around 5 years later, as it came out in Nov 2020). What I liked: I was happily surprised by the extent of the lore/story. This way of delivering a story, meaning through some cutscenes and reading messages left by corpses and stone monuments, really clicked with me. It was effective and made the game much more interesting, and I would even say made the world feel more real and tragic. I learnt about what the god slayer had done to the old gods, what his vision was, and how many people died either defending him or going against him. This made the final boss fight much more compelling than otherwise. Secondly, the language used by the characters and the Mongolian soundtrack are unique and a delight to listen to. Thirdly, the gameplay was pure dynamic fun. The movement was the core of the game, and the basics were successfully developed. Finally, I thought the length of the game was appropriate. I beat it in 4-5 days, around 18-20 hours I believe. I appreciate that. One of my main criticisms of their first 2 games was that they were way too short. So this addresses my critiques vis-a-vis their previous releases. What could have been improved: Perhaps it was a technical error limited to myself, but in a few instances, tense music was playing when I was just trying to relax and roam around the world. Secondly, the puzzles were on the easier side, which many have commented on in their reviews, but I didn't mind it too much. I did not get this game looking for a challenge or tough time. The easy puzzles were congruous with the fluid overall experience and traversal. What I am saying is that I had a consistent relaxed mindset while playing. Having difficult puzzles could have made the game much longer, much less chill. And it would not have been worth it. The rewards only warrant this level of difficulty. But I'm still conflicted, and would understand the criticism that some were ridiculously simple. Furthermore, you unlock more wing flaps, but the gameplay is rather stagnant. I did not might it while playing, but I am simply sharing an area for improvement which would elevate the game to the 80s/100. Unlocking double jumps, reducing aiming time, or giving multiple arrows as rewards for beating bosses, for example. Something along those lines. Finally, the final boss fight felt just a bit underwhelming. It was a spectacle, but the 4 corrupted gods were harder, which is a philosophy I do not personally agree with. I would have made the Godslayer the most difficult part of the game, since it is the final part, and should be the most climactic and emotionally rewarding. I gave Journey 77/100, despite it being short, having inferior gameplay, and the story being too vague. I would give The pathless 79/100, and I look forward to the next Giant Squid game!

Imagine if Shadow of the Colossus were developed by Annapurna Interactive, with a greater sense of urgency in the gameplay and a stunning art direction. It would be an absolute favorite of mine.

The Pathless takes you on a unique expedition that pleasantly surprised me. Not your typical game but this is a genuine compliment. The graphics and music reminded me of Journey. Puzzles were intuitive and thoughtful but not overly difficult which is a positive. It takes a little getting into (definitely felt lost at the beginning) but happy I completed the adventure!

A fascinating adventure with a beautiful side in his visuals and great playability. His taste it's like an old-school game, but makes great points in the adventure genre with captivating music and a unique world.

Like previous effort ABZÛ before it, The Pathless leans heavily into the gorgeous cell-shaded world, and it does so with gameplay and story that keeps you locked and engaged for the entirety of its 10 hour story run. Comparisons to games like Shadow of the Colossus and Journey are apt, but seeing the world rush by at 4K and 60fps is a thing of beauty. Come for the frenetic gameplay, stay for the art.

This game is a masterpiece. I already imagined that I would like it and that it was good, but not that good. It's just very beautiful from start to finish, great art and graphics, the gameplay is really fun with interesting puzzles that get more and more challenging and different throughout the game, with several secrets and the exploration is good and very free around the map. But, in my opinion, the game truly stands out in the boss fights. They also get more challenging as the game progresses, but they are all simply epic. This game definitely didn't get the recognition it deserved. More people should play and enjoy this beauty

Its stylish visuals and slick gameplay make The Pathless stand out as a truly epic experience. If the concept of whipping around massive intricate environments at ridiculous speeds while solving puzzles and taking down bosses appeals to you then definitely check it out.

A hugely entertaining open world puzzler where simply getting from A to B is more entertaining than most games in their entirety.

Giant Squid's The Pathless minimalist approach has many highs and lows, yet despite its flaws it manages to emerge as a solid game. If you are looking for a quick adventure that ramps up towards the end, you will not be disappointed with this one.

The Pathless is a worthy addition to the minimal release list this early in the PlayStation 5 lifespan. It delivers engaging gameplay, as well as frankly beautiful visuals. The issue is that feeling of familiarity *cough*Zelda*cough* coupled with a lack of activities to indulge in. Too often does this feel like a template of greater things to come, and it's a massive hope that this will spawn a sequel. So many great ideas needing to be expanded upon, mainly the excellent movement, as no game this year has given a greater feeling of speed in its unique traversal system, and along with the excellent boss battles, this comes recommended. Here's to The Pathless 2: Less Travelled.

There are a number of clever puzzles in The Pathless. Alas, I found little reward in solving them as I wasn’t invested in the game’s world or its characters. Solving archery puzzles spread across a wide barren environment just wasn’t for me.

Amazing experience... It's like shadow of the colossus only difference you're running fast and flying with the help of your friend (eagle). The graphics and controls are top quality. So worth it all the way to the platinum

Really cool, big boss fights. Movement is fun when you are moving fast, but slow and miserable if there are no boosts around. Some good exploration in spots.

Although it looks nice, it’s all been done before nothing new or exciting about any of the puzzles I just found it boring.
