The Caribou Trail is a game that should be taught in schools. It teaches the facts of a battle that is too often not well known to most of us Canadians, solely because a group of us took part in it before they were Canadian. And it manages to tell this story in a way that is both happy and optimistic as well as fearful and sad.

The Caribou Trail from developers Unreliable Narrators and ManaVoid is an emotional and revealing experience about the horrors of World War I and what soldiers went through. It’s not for the weak of heart, nor is it for those looking for their next first-person shooter fix.

The Caribou Trail left me caring for an unknown war story. Fisher, Gordon and Lonnie’s human tale of small island men being cast into a global conflict is equal parts sombre and heartwarming. The title’s great voice acting and audio design immersed me into this short story deeply.

The Caribou Trail presents a strong, albeit short, story worth experiencing alongside some boring, tedious, and downright pointless mechanics. While I recommend it for the story, it is one of those games that leave me wishing it were just a movie or an interactive visual novel, rather than what can only be described as a walking simulator.

I enjoyed the game’s story and the way it really developed the personalities of the three soldiers. I also liked learning about some of the aspects of Gallipoli from the perspective of the soldiers, such as the way they cleverly executed a secret retreat under the nose of the Ottoman army. However, after I reached the end, I felt more like I had finished a book than completed a game. The game is also pretty short, and while you can tell that a lot of care went into crafting the story, you can easily get through it in a couple of evenings. If you’re interested in military history, and don’t mind playing a game in which you will spend most of your time eavesdropping on conversations, it’s easy enough to recommend The Caribou Trail. If you want more actual play in your gameplay, you may find yourself getting bored in spite of the game’s short length.

At its core, The Caribou Trail does a pretty good job telling a less mentioned WW1 history story regarding the Gallipoli campaign and the hardship of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. Unfortunately though, developer Unreliable Narrators seems to have missed the mark with its action-driven marketing, reeling recruits in with images of trench warfare and eventually serving them a walking/soup stirring sim. The Caribou Trail shows flashes of greatness, but you might already have had your fill before you get to watch those unfold.

- 3 - 4 hour long. -repetitive short 1st person WW1 walking simulator story game, unnecessary unfun cooking sections, graphical errors, disappointment only using gun on training and didnt feel u are in real war come on its ww1 must be brutal game need to be more darker. -only good voice acting, story and some sad moments.

Disappointment is the perfect word to describe this game. It consists of several hours of walking, seemingly stretched out on purpose so that no one has time to refund the game on Steam. If you, like me, were expecting an engaging, perhaps dramatic story - don't hold your breath; it's just not there.Instead, you get some semi-mystical nonsense about ghosts. The war itself feels completely absent, serving merely as a backdrop. It's just three friends who sailed somewhere in Turkey, running through monotonous tunnels cracking jokes, and telling each other scary stories by the campfire.
The single dramatic moment and all the emotional turmoil it triggers look incredibly ridiculous. What happens following that situation - the sortie against the enemy snipers - also comes off as comical. They just decided to climb out of the trenches without any orders from command, launched some random attack, and faced absolutely no consequences for it.
This game failed to build any atmosphere, failed to tell an interesting story, failed to deliver on the drama, and failed to impress with its graphics or music. It is an empty, forgettable game that simply does not deserve your money.
