The Boys: Trigger Warning is filled with some great moments and remains faithful to the show, with super powers that are a lot of fun to use when facing the various enemies.

The Boys: Trigger Warning VR is a messy dream come true for fans of the series, but could be skipped by non-fans of the series.

While the gameplay does suffer on some levels, it’s not like it’s unplayable or frustrating. If anything, the game becomes too easy when it allows players to truly unleash their powers, an effective means of showcasing the overwhelming power that comes with being a Supe. If you’re interested in dark superhero stories and want to follow up on the VR adventures of Batman and Deadpool, then The Boys: Trigger Warning is a good pick. Fans of The Boys will especially find a lot to love about the experience. While it may not be a graceful landing, Trigger Warning has enough strengths to make for a solid VR experience.

In the end, The Boys: Trigger Warning is merely fine provided you can live with its limitations and odd choices. The idea of playing as an original character in The Boys universe is a solid one mostly because he fits at being an unsympathetic character. The idea of using telekinesis as a base is great, but it feels like the game wants to limit how powerful you could feel. If the game stuck strictly to stealth, then things would be fine, but forcing an unrefined combat system into the mix doesn't help things, and neither does having a more cartoony look rather than a serious one. If you're a fan of the comic or series, you can eke out some enjoyment from this title. For everyone else, Trigger Warning should only be an option if you are really running low on VR experiences.

I didn’t enjoy my time with the game. Its technical shortcomings make it feel like a chore to play. That said, some of the powers, especially telekinesis, are fun to experiment with. Since this is a Sony product, it will be interesting to see how it performs on the PSVR2. The Quest version, however, desperately needs optimization. That’s disappointing, particularly given how polished other superhero VR games like Batman and Deadpool have been. The game is currently available on the Quest 3 and 3S, but it may be best to wait for patches or for impressions of the upcoming PSVR2 version before jumping in.
