Tails of Iron
Tails of Iron tells an impressively deep story with no dialogue and keeps you entertained in the interim with witty charm and gruesome combat. Definitely worth a try if you are a fan of soulslikes.
Tails of Iron is a charming and often brutal Souls-like adventure, with some wonderful combat mechanics and a gorgeous hand-drawn world.
Tails of Iron is a good game, although it cannot actually fit into one certain genre. It is not very deep or complex, as developers rather focused on implementing well a few elements. Thankfully, the exploration and combat system work like a charm and turn this rat tale into one worth experiencing. Its 2D world is truly engaging, while the challenging combat offers plenty of satisfaction once it is mastered. Tails of Iron might not be an overly ambitious game, but it is entertaining and rewarding.

Combattimento divertente. Difficoltà medio-alta .. alcuni boss sono frustranti. Mondo molto bello e storia carina. Consigliato!!

I've just completed "Tails of Iron" on PS5 and also got the Platinum Trophy (very easy to take, actually, since almost all trophies are linked to the main quest). It took a little bit less than 7 hours to beat it and complete the few secondary quests available. Here's my thoughts: PROS - Art Direction is very cool for this little 2D game. You can easily see that the devs put a lot of effort and cure expecially for details. The style is colorful, reach and easy to appreaciate expecially qhen you see how some plocations change during the evolution of the story. This also goes for enemies' design, armors and weapons. - The story is... okay-sh. The plot is nothing exceptional but the way the story is told and a couple of twists make it enjoyable and easy to follow. There's also the right ammount of humor and few nice easter eggs. CONS - The game is quite repetitive. Most of the time you'll just complete fetch quests and face the same enemies over and over again. You'll also move in the same areas for the greatest part of the game and the final areas -which are the most interesting- are quite small.- Exploration is basically no existent. Areas that work as dungeons are basically long corridors that move in one direction. There are no puzzles, no crossroads, nothing. You just move in one direction, kill enemies here and there, fetch what you have to fetch and that's it. - Fight is terribly clunky. The game is based on a dash/dodge and parry system connected to a "weight" stat that depends on your gear. Weapons with high damage or armors with high defense are also heavy. Light weapons/armor offer less offense and defense, but the weight less. The more your weight, harder is to dodge. While on paper this seems perfect, the reality is that the animations feel slow. Often dodge is useless, like there are no Iframes. Parries tend to not connect. Another problem is enemies animations, expecially bosses. Attacks are hard to read or anticipate their pattern so basically it's just a matter of luck. Some dodgeble attacks can't be dodged, some parryable attacks can't be parried. It's very weird, or to be precise it is unrelaible. Considering that you fight A LOT in this game, this can become very frustratring very easily. In order to fix the problem, you'll notice that devs had put healings, ammos and save points almost everywhere and before every boss battle or room full of enemies. Sure, once you've understand "how to make it works" it works, but still... After all, Tails of Iron is a small okay game, if you can buy it for less then 15€ I'd say that's ok to keep you busy few hours, but don't expect a masterpiece or such. Expecially, if you tend to get easily nervous due to clunky fight mechanics, maybe you should not play this game.

Tails of Iron is a fantastic, brutal, and gorgeous game. Placing rats at the forefront of an adventure game was a bold move, and serves the world that Odd Bug Studio has created immensely. The battle between the frogs and rats is intense, the combat is challenging - yet fair - and the wide variety of equipment is sure to make any RPG fan excited to experiment with new loadouts. I enjoyed every moment spent in the Rat Kingdom, and can only hope to see more from Redgi, his brothers, and this fantastic world.

Odd inventory design niggles aside and shopworn concepts aside, Tails of Iron is beautifully presented and a roundly entertaining, surprisingly grim action RPG that boasts a grandly enjoyable combat system. Fans of punishing action RPGs and grimdark fairy-tales will find much to love here.

Even if Tails of Iron has some flaws, starting with its back and forth and its combat system that lacks evolution, the title is simply charming. Helped by its panoply of charismatic characters, its sumptuous visuals and its successful fights requiring precision and coordination, the creation of Odd Bug Studio offers a magnificent journey that we can only recommend ... at least, if the difficulty does not suit you. Don't be afraid.

While it never totally fails to be an acceptable action RPG, most of Tails of Iron’s initial appeal doesn’t outlast its humdrum gameplay.

Bello stile grafico, sistema di combattimento semplice ma ben fatto, buon gioco d'azione in **** po' troppo lineare da esplorare, ma per un gioco che dura poche ore va bene così.

Could be a good game, looks beautifull but the level of difficulty is uncessary… No fun playing this game except if you like raging and fighting the same boss 50 times… Their pattern are totally random and the hitbox of the hero ridiculous. Controls are very sloppy too. Stop trying to make souls games all the time, a game can be hard without this level of frustration. Too bad…

Waste of time. This is a memory game. Up until the 5th boss (which was the point I decided I've had enough of this combat trainwreck) many of the things the game teaches about combat mechanics are invalidated, on a case by case basis. For example, blocking is the most frequently invalidated mechanic. Also: No i-frames on *this* enemy speed? So, what is the skill required here from the player Mr/Mrs Designer ? Memorization of movesets for accurate positioning *preemptively* ? Ok, this might be the case, I am not up for it. And - maybe, just maybe - no one else should support designs like this either, as adequate(ly) soulslike games. This is *NOT* what a soulslike should be like. In the spirit of this design I'd like to propose table tennis as the best soulslike out there. The soulslike version of table tennis includes you playing against 7 table tennis balls which all score points against you normally. Oh, and you have an oar to deflect them. Wow. Isn't this some soulslike, huh? What a great, deep, meaningful, and well thought out soulslike design. I am such a brilliant designer. Please follow me for my Kickstarter campaign. I was hoping I'd play through this one then move on to the second title. Nope. I am definitely done with this. The high score this game gets is due to art and atmosphere.
