Sparklite
Sparklite is probably best suited for younger players and those looking for a delightful (if somewhat insubstantial) romp through a gorgeous world. It probably won’t be something I look back fondly on in a few years, but it’s entertaining and whimsical enough to be worth a purchase.
The developer Red Blue Games has managed to give us one of the most interesting and careful titles of recent years in the roguelike genre. Very simple gameplay, an interesting story, charismatic characters and graphics that capture the attention of any player. It is an ideal game for dungeon lovers, as the constant change of landscapes, enemies and scenarios could confuse those players who never touched a title of this style. Similarly, do not expect a work of art, because the title does not add anything new and is repeated constantly.

Whenever you die, you are returned to the Refuge and the world resets, with the order and position of the ‘rooms’ changing. But while death means you lose any consumables you may have picked up on your adventures, you keep any Sparklite you’ve collected, taking the sting out of what could otherwise be a frustrating mechanic. And while it’s not in the realm of soulslike difficulty, there’s enough challenge for this game to feel rewarding and make you want to keep playing. [Issue#170, p.92]

Very interesting game, with some good ideas and the pleasant possibility of varying/customizing your attack style (although for the final Boss it's best to favor the melee aspects).

What a fun little game! I'm really enjoing it! I think it's way underrated! I love the art direction of this game, the music and the gameplay itself is so much fun!

The Digital Fix
Though levels are procedurally generated, Sparklite succeeds in building a cohesive world that feels as though it has been carefully designed, making it a great entry point for those apprehensive about this trait of roguelikes.

Sparkle might look a little bit Zelda-ish, but it’s actually a roguelike with no big surprises. If you enjoy the genre, you’ll have a good time with it.

Sparklite is a fun title that is born from a wealth of classic influences. However, it may test the patience of players in the latter half of the game due to it's procedurally generated world and crazy difficulty spikes that force you to grind as much as possible just to give yourself the smallest of advantages.

PlayStation LifeStyle
Sparklite is a pretty fun game. It’s vibrant and cute and as a fan of pixel art, I admit that I may be a little biased. However, thanks to its rogue-lite elements, you can play in short spurts or sit down for a few hours at a time which is a real plus in my books.

We Got This Covered
Sparklite is a safe, stock-standard rogue-lite RPG that attempts to mimic The Legend of Zelda, but never manages to emulate it. An otherwise brief journey that requires some samey exploration to prepare for late-game hurdles leaves this adventure feeling a little stale.

Sparklite in the shadows of moonlighter Moonlighter was one of my favorite games of 2018, so I was excited to play Sparklite, a game from the same publisher.. yet different development team… however these games feel vastly similar to eachother… Much like moonlighter this is a game of venturing out, gathering currency to get better items, procedurally generated dungeons, and boss battles trying to unlock a final gate to take down the final boss… its an identical game hook… sadly however sparklite doesn’t quite have the same magic that moonlighter has… Here youll be playing as ada, who sets out to take down 5 titants mining Geodia for all of its materials, I started really loving this game as it initially gave me Zelda vibes, but the moment i died and ventured back out to try again I noticed something that made my heart drop.. this is a procedurally generated action adventure game….. your goal here is to collect as much currency or gadgets as you can before you die, uncover a bioms secrets, upgrade the shops and buy new gadget upgrades and plug ins to increase your strength to the point you can take down that sections boss… rinse and repeat for the entire game.. this starts as a really addictive hook…. But by only the 2nd boss.. which is about 20% of the game… I was already tired of it… it becomes frustrating exploring the world rather than exhillerating or mysterious… I feel like all mystery lives in the first section of the game.. and afterwards its just the same thing with different enemies and colored ground.. I didn’t care to find new gadgets, I just wanted to rush through, get to the boss, and take it on… I was over collecting, I was over dying at the hand of random enemies.. and I was over exploring… your exploration incentive is killed by the lack of health drops enemys give… theyre there but maybe like 1 out of 100 enemies killed will drop any health…don’t get me wrong.. trees and chests will drop consumables to help in battle and help fill your health.. but enemies not dropping health makes it just too risky and not worth searching these areas for those cosnumables… which in turn turns this into a game of okay I died let me rush to the boss again and collect a few currency on my way… rinse and repeat until the boss is defeated… this is ultimately what hurts sparklight the most.. the lack of health drops… with them this okay game turns into a great game… but right now sparklight just goes from new and exciting to frustration that leads to tedium and boredom that it will be hard for you to care enough to want to finish I give Sparklight a 6/10
