No matter how salacious things may get, Reflexions never loses sight of the sweetness at the game’s core – fundamentally, this is a game about a girl attempting to overcome her shyness and tell a boy how she feels about him. While I’ll be happy to get back to battling demons and ninjas when the next full entry in the series is released, I won’t say that this is a waste of the franchise or a disrespectful use of its main character – just the opposite, in fact.

I didn’t really enjoy Senran Kagura Reflexions at all and I don’t think I’ll ever be going back to it. Somebody awaken me from my long Asuka-induced hangover when a normal Senran Kagura game comes out on Switch, it sure as hell deserves one on the handheld-hybrid.

Senran Kagura Reflexions is an Ecchi dating sim game that in reality is a touching and squeezing simulator. The gameplay feels pervy at times, and gets repetitive and boring fairly quickly. There are no visual issues, and motion controls make things more interesting, but it unfortunately isn't enough to make it entertaining.

The superficial nature of the visual novel format is strange, considering this series would be perfect for the genre given the size of its character roster and the high stakes confrontations between the different good and evil shinobi schools. What we get instead is a half-assed story connected by a monotonous mini-game. A total bust (not that kind).

Reflexions is not great. There’s not much content, there aren’t enough massage mini-games, there aren’t enough dress-up options (at least, not yet), and the voyeuristic tone is creepy. And then there’s the fantasy involving Asuka being your little sister, which almost makes me want to nuke the game from orbit. For the Senran Kagura superfan, it’s probably required reading but everyone else can just wait for Peach Beach Pinball.

While this is a unique showcase of HD rumble on the Switch, you will most likely get bored of the gimmick very quickly.

Overall, there’s not a lot here for me to even criticize. The motion controls are a bit sloppy, the dialogue needs work and the amount of actual content is pretty laughable. On top of that, you’d be hard-pressed to get through this game without feeling gross or guilty. Yet, I still have to salute Xseed’s commitment to their physics engines and character models. Whatever else the game lacks, Asuka still moves and reacts at the level you expect from any Senran Kagura title.

If you’re a fan of the series, this entry won’t be of any great surprise - after all, we’ve had a water gun third-person shooter and a rhythmic cookery game under the Senran Kagura banner - but if you’re new to the series this title might look like the kind of thing you'd not normally find on Switch. As innocent and silly as it all pertains to be, it’s just a tame excuse to get a bit of cheap sleaze onto a Western games console.

You might visit for the lewdness but you won't be staying for long. Senran Kagura Reflexions falls short on its promises and ends up being a dull title that fairs to offer anything memorable.

It's a pretty denigrating game. In addition, HD vibration and motion controls have to learn a lot of eroticism yet. If they wanted perversion they could have gone to the extreme, and not stay in the bikinis with small moans and "senpais".
