UPDATE in October 2025: I released a fan-made patch that fixes the issue I wrote in my review on Windows PCs, so that everyone has a chance to beat this game! You may find it by searching "river city girls patch bolofan05" on Google. REVIEW: Great game, but it is unbeatable on its own without my patch if your system language is Turkish, and you can't switch to English. Otherwise the game freezes at the start of the 5th boss, which is late into the game. This issue has been reported by multiple users to the developer (WayForward) just recently and it isn't fixed yet; though some users can work around it by switching their system language to English (United States). Instead of WayForward, I made and released a patch myself for PCs! Türkçe: Ekim 2025 GÜNCELLEMESİ: Yorumumda bahsettiğim sorunu Windows PC'lerinde çözen hayran yapımı bir patch yayınladım. Un side scroller muy entretenido. El estilo gráfico con pixeles es muy bonito Jugablemente cada personaje tiene sus combos que puedes ir desbloqueando en la tienda al ganar dinero y es lo que puedes esperar de un juego de este estilo El doblaje al inglés esta muy conseguido y a las protas les acabas cogiendo cariño

This is a fun, anime-inspired beat 'em up that plays like an open-world "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World". It's set in the "River City Ransom" and "Double Dragon" universe. The game is a two-player brawler with RPG-like elements. You'll level up in strength, earn currency, equip special items and learn new attack combos. There are also side-missions, scattered collectibles and plenty of shops to discover. Featuring gorgeous pixel art, colorful animation and motion-comic panels, the game is a visual delight. "River City Girls" also features synth-wave pop songs and a retro-sounding soundtrack. Overall, I would rate this with an 8 out of 10.

The best beat em up I've played in a very long time. It's a lot of fun to play, the plot is pretty good, the combat works really well and the soundtrack is fantastic. There's a ton of secrets to unlock outside of the main plot and a hidden ending (which isn't as good as the cannon one). My only complaint is that even on the harder difficulty levels, it isn't that difficult.

A colorful and inventive, anime-inspired sequel to "River City Ransom". This is a retro-styled beat 'em up that features gorgeous pixel art, animated sequences and synth-wave pop songs. You play as one of two high school girls that seek out their kidnapped boyfriends. The game has an open-ended structure with some backtracking. As you progress, you'll level up and earn money, unlock new moves and equip items. Fans of "River City" and "Double Dragon" will recognize plenty of characters from the greater "Kunio-Kun" universe. Despite some flaws, "Girls" is a lot of fun. I would rate this with an 8 out of 10.

I love Streets of Rage and this is nothing like it. Enemies that block your combos, stun you and other **** you don't like in a game like this. Also the healing is almost non-existent, enemies are HP pools and you have to grind for money to withstand bosses. Pass.

Exactly what I was hoping for. A lot of fun with some challenges along the way.

When I played this game on release - I was disappointed. But, when I bought it in 2021 on PS4 it wasn't that bad as i remembered. Pretty interesting and well done story for beat 'em up game, the best OST from all games of this genre and interesting gameplay. Tnx wayforward that at this time thay didn't f%*d up with a beat 'em up (yes Double Dragon Neon?)

Me gusto mucho, el estilo y la aventura junto a la historia que no se toma muy enserio es una gran combinación, la dificulta me parece buena, ademas de poder jugarse para 2. Es realmente adictivo

So much of me wants to like this game, but it has mechanics that are so unfair, heavy stun lock for one, but I could live with that. You need money in the game to get better items to be stronger, but when you die you lose most your money, and the enemies still get stronger, making a hard game harder and harder as you progress, I don't understand why you couldn't lose less money if none at all. Guiding the player, I don't understand, I have to pull out a walkthrough every 5 minutes as the map tends to not display where to go most times (even funny when the walkthrough also gets confused where to go!) Dialogue for the next task is sometimes spoken while in battle,confusing the whole ordeal further. Now, the straw that broke the camels back, habari is a boss you fight about halfway into the game, stun lock, and what you would call a bullet sponge, not challenging, frustrating! Like the most unfun part of any game I've played, so unfair and boring I can't see myself playing it again, love the fighting in the game, but the bad aspects over shadow the game so much it just becomes frustrating to play, even in coop

Such a fun beat'em'up - and it oozes style and fun on every corner. Lovely animations, great character designs, outstanding music, funny dialogues... it is so easy to have fun with this brawler which doesn't take itself all to seriously. I see a lot of people complaining about the ending and the 4th wall breaking parts... but this is just a fun game, not less, not more. Catch a buddy and enjoy this lovely little adventure with Kyoko and Misako.

Way Wayforward has done an amazing job making another great game! Beautiful animations, fun gameplay, and tons of replayability! A worthy sequel to River City Ransom.

Shortest and cringiest adventure ever. City filled by degenerates forcing you to backtrack everytime with their dumb dialogues. This somehow pretend to be related with Kunio-kun.
