Period: Cube - Shackles of Amadeus
Period: Cube ~Shackles of Amadeus~ is a hard game to recommend. I’ve played better VN/RPG hybrids and feel that there are stronger otome titles available on the Vita. I also think there are stronger “main character stuck in a different world” plots out there. However, I can recognize that a lot of care went into it, and there were elements of it I truly enjoyed. I’d probably only recommend giving the game a shot once you’ve exhausted your better otome options.
I get that I'm not the target audience for Period Cube. For all I know, otome lovers will be thrilled at the prospect of passively guiding a teenage girl through a world where she doesn't have all that much agency. Personally, though, I can state from experience that better visual novels exist, and that you'd be better off playing — or even replaying — those than you would be picking this up for the first time.
Period: Cube has an interesting setting and gorgeous design, but is weighed down by some odd choices in content. Refreshing mechanical additions to the visual novel genre are much appreciated, but after fully completing the game you probably won't be itching to come back for more.

P:C's premise is derivative, but in spite of that I still enjoyed it because of the enjoyable soundtrack, unique art, and the successful use of otome tropes. The merry bad ends of P:C are among the best otome game bad ends I've read. The routes that I like best are Astrum, Hiroya, and Zain. I have to admit that I played the game because of its unique selling point which is the datable onii-chan or older brother character, Shiki. Unfortunately, Shiki's storyline fell short of my expectations.

Period Cube is a good otome visual novel with great visuals, interesting characters, and nice music but one with a derivative and cheesy story that let it down.

Not every game needs to be innovative, however, to provide thoughtful entertainment, and Period: Cube most certainly provided me with that in good measure.
