Old School Musical wear it's inspirations on its sleeves, but manages to find its own path. There's a lot to do beyond the main story, and with different difficulty modes (which you can change at the start of each level) there's a lot of game to see here. While it isn't without its faults, Old School Musical is absurdly fun, and worthy of a place in any Switch owners library who fancies themselves a fan of music.
Old School Musical is a fun and addictive game that will delight retro fans. With a truly hilarious story mode and a great post-game, this title stands out in the Nintendo Switch catalog.
Old School Musical says a lot in its title - it's a music and rhythm game that's full of old school gaming references. While it's difficult to understand why the game did not secure a licence to feature the actual songs from the retro games it so openly worships, Old School Musical is still a fun and enjoyable game whose lifespan even benefits from a very welcome extension.

IT'S a MIRACLE ! *disclaimer: I really had this much fun playing this game. This review is very honest and has not been paid or rewarded by any means. No I am not on drugs.

Old school musical caught my attention when it was first announced and I have been following it ever since. It at its core is a chiptune rhythm-based adventure that revels in its ability to poke fun at itself and the source material it is Parodying. But is it worth your hard earned cash? Let us find out!! Graphics: Graphically OSM (Short for Old School Musical) is a joy to the eyes from the very title screen the game oozes with bright 8 and 16-bit graphics paying homage to the best of the NES and SNES. I won't spoil what games you will be visiting but if you can think of an Iconic title on either of these systems it probably is parodied in this game. You can truly tell that French Studio La **** truly is made up of people who truly love the past and present of gaming and it truly shows from the beginning to the end of OSM. Graphics get a Plus. Sound: I wish I could beam the music from this game straight into your eardrums because it is amazing and needs to be heard by everyone! It takes what made the music from the 8 bit and 16-bit eras and puts a modern flair to it in a way I have never heard before. Not only is the Music great but the sound effects are perfect and recreate a title from the time period perfectly. Sound gets a Plus. Gameplay: OSM starts out easy but quickly becomes a challenge and may rival the best rhythm games out as of today. The gameplay at times can be fast and frantic with three different difficulties to master and I myself failed and got a hilarious Game Over Screen that I won't spoil for you here. The interface is clean and easy to understand with button prompts for you to hit at the beat of the music similar to other titles in the genre but OSM adds an old-school flair to it and for this I was overjoyed. Gameplay gets a Plus. Story: Rob and Tib dream of leaving the digital Island they have called home since a child. They have been trained by their Mother who has said they will one day become heroes. As your journey in OSM begins you are introduced to our leading characters and then thrust right into a hilarious Tutorial section which made me giggle with glee. I won't spoil any more than what I have told you so far as you truly need to experience this game for yourself and I would recommend avoiding any Let's Plays of this Game whatsoever. The story gets a Plus. Value: If you are keeping score you probably by now realize I love this game and recommend it for the asking price of $12.99 it is a game you need to have in your collection. Even if you are not a fan of rhythm games you need to play this title just for the sheer nostalgia factor it oozes from the beginning to the end. Value gets a Plus. My Final Score is a well deserved 10 out of 10 for OSM! Thank you to Publisher Playdius for the Review code and I congratulate La **** on a job well done on this amazing game!!

Old School Musical‘s laser-like focus on delivering a remix of the classic titles of yore with modern rhythm gameplay is a real delight. Don’t hesitate to add it to your collection.

There really isn’t anything else quite like Old School Musical. It’s a game that’s been several years in the works – and when the outcome is something as unique and special as this, I daresay every moment was worth it.

Old School Musical is a great action rhythm game for fans of chiptunes. Some homages may be more obscure than others, but the music sounds good regardless if you like chiptunes. Notice a pattern? The music is something a niche audience would love, there are no songs with vocals or more modern sounds. But if you like appreciating the music of the 80s and 90s games OSM might just have a song for you.

Steady rhythm gameplay doesn’t hide the fact that I’d rather play the original songs and not the modern throwbacks.

While bogged down by its postgame content and scant multiplayer offerings, Old School Musical is still a great time for those who want a nostalgic and comedic trip back to the 80s and 90s. Old School Musical’s dazzling soundtrack and wonderful visuals should be experienced by those who want to boogie on down to the arcades.
