Apart from the fact that it's fun to play, Nocturnal is also quite fun to watch. At first the graphics can look pretty ordinary, but when the fire and darkness start dancing together, sparks fly! It's the combination of various quick effects, explosions, smoke or darkness that gives Nocturnal its real flair and all together makes Nocturnal truly an Experience with a capital E! [Issue#329]

Nocturnal features fast and furious action as well as an interesting gameplay system with fire and light. With good graphics, atmosphere and entertainment, at least for the few hours it offers.

And that’s the best way to describe Nocturnal: it’s a neat game. It won’t take too much of your time, and it’s similar enough to other metroidvanias that you’ll probably only want to play it if you’re already a fan of the genre, but if you like the genre and want something that has enough spark of inspiration to carry it through a few hours, it’s definitely worth investigating.

Nocturnal is a cool 2D action platformer that blends combat, platforming, and a bit of puzzle-solving into a fun experience. One of the highlights is the avatar state you enter a few times, especially during the final boss fight. It makes you feel like a total powerhouse and nearly unstoppable, which is a blast. The skill tree is simple but effective, helping you upgrade in ways that reduce boring backtracking and keep the game flowing smoothly. Visually, the game looks great and matches the action-packed vibe perfectly. There’s also a good mix of enemies, so fights stay fresh. The theme of fire being both good and destructive adds a neat twist to the story. That said, the game relies heavily on trial and error, so you’ll probably die a lot while learning enemy moves and traps. This can make the first run feel a bit rough and frustrating. It’s also pretty short, lasting just over two hours. This makes it perfect for speedrunning but might feel too brief if you want a longer adventure. Overall, Nocturnal is a stylish, action-packed platformer with unique mechanics and solid enemy variety. It’s a bit short and can be tricky at first, but if you enjoy fast-paced, skill-based games, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Nocturnal is a characteristic and original videogame which, however, does not innovate the videogame panorama, while proposing an interesting and satisfying context. The playful structure, pleasant and extremely well integrated, could entertain for a few hours. A work to have if you love the genre and if you are curious about it.

Nocturnal isn’t consumed by its inspirations. It’s a unique 2D action sidescroller that consistently tests the player’s skills against challenging situations. The lore and worldbuilding create an experience you can’t help but want to see through as you act as a light in the darkness of this adventure.

All in all, Nocturnal remains a good indie platformer that offers enough innovations to make it worth a playthrough. Despite some uninspired mechanics, the overall gameplay experience is enjoyable and in no way frustrating.

Nocturnal has a strong core mechanic that generates some interesting puzzles and game play. Aside from that, the environments and story aren’t especially interesting, and while there is progression and a bit of depth, there’s some frustration, too. Nocturnal does a lot with its basic premise, but the rest of the game feels like an afterthought.

Nocturnal has got its problems. Locking you out of areas you feel you haven't completely cleared yet, being the main one. I still did enjoy myself playing this, however. To me, it was the right game at the right time, managing to simultaneously be a taster and a alternative draft for Ubisoft's upcoming Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. So, if you have 5 hours to kill, you'll find a (mostly refreshingly) bare-bones, tight and mostly well-made indie title that loves the old 2D Prince of Persias as much as you do. Worth a look.

Graphics : Very good Story : Good Gameplay : Good Difficulty : Normal Run time : 1-2 hours I really love the art style of this 2D side-scrolling game. I read somewhere it was a metroidvania but it is not. The game is not really long but if you like action-platformer games, you will probably like this one. It's not overly challenging, although you may end up dying, it won't leave you feeling frustrated. To unlock the No Stone Unturned Achievement, you will have to find all fire shrines which are missable. If you need some help with the game, please have a look to my guide on Youtube : GuyLinkBrush Gaming Nocturnal

Nocturnal impressiona com gameplay tensa e envolvente, mais peca em seu jogo ser curto com pouca inovação. Conteúdos adicionais pode ser um incremento interessante para aumentar a jogatina no futuro.

This game has nice and depth core mechanics and a lot of variety. Beautiful in sound design, music, combat and art design. But the story didn't pull me in. Some story pieces are hidden in very complex places and ending is so cliche. And some checkpoints are dumb ass
