Nioh 3 makes minor updates to the formula that was so successful in Nioh 2 but transplants it into a time-travelling open-world adventure. Asset recycling is a little egregious, but it's a tough new Nioh outing that fans of the series will eat up.

Nioh 3 is a mechanically rich action RPG that refines the series’ trademark combat while experimenting with a semi-open structure. Its strongest moments deliver exceptional flow and mastery, though repetitive objectives and technical issues hold it back. Not the series’ peak, but still one of the most satisfying skill-driven RPGs available.

Nioh 3 has one of the best combat systems and endless mechanics and customization options that can overwhelm even the most avid fan. The combination of ninja mode and samurai mode is a unique evolution for the franchise.

This game is seriously overrated and a downgrade to past nioh games with a tacked on checklist open world. Worst enemy variety I've seen in a soulslike.

Great Game. What I was able to play of it. I'm getting older and my hands don't respond as well as they used. They get tired and sore. So, I appreciate when I'm able to adjust the difficulty. Oh wait, there is no difficulty setting. Ugh!
So I had to stop playing it. I understand keeping to a certain standard of originality and "integrity" but, there's nothing wrong with offering your gaming fans difficulty setting options.
I just wanted to enjoy the game at my own pace. Still gave it an 8 because the graphics and mechanics are awesome but I couldn't keep up with the combat.
Meh!

It's just the usual anger generator, I want my 30+ hours of like back. The game doesn't prepare you for the bosses, the open world is just an excuse to make you spend some time messing around with weak enemies before you realize you'll need to spend hours for each boss, some of those are real cheaters with oversized hit-boxes and an insane amount of health. The game doesn't need to be easy, it should be just balanced and fair. Zero is what you deserve.

I hope this is the moment where Team Ninja is finally acknowledged as not only a driving force in the Soulslike genre, but for its name to be ranked amongst the best. Nioh 3 is an unbelievable game from start to finish and excels in all aspects of game development.

If you thrive on deep combat systems, layered progression, and high difficulty, this is easily one of Team Ninja’s most refined efforts. For me, it’s a game I admire as much as I wrestle with. But there is enough there to to make want to go for 100%.

This is a great game the way they simplified some mechanics in the combat to add a new mode gives players more freedom it is a great spin on the nioh genre and feels like its own category of souls like.

A true love letter to both Nioh and Souls like games. The open world is done just right and the combat is peak

Nioh 3 doesn’t settle for iterative improvements. Instead, it pulls together Team Ninja’s best mechanics from past entries, folds in welcome touches from its other games, and backs it all up with genuinely strong new additions that feel mechanically sound and consistently engaging.

You don’t change a winning team, as they say. Except that you absolutely can replace a winning team with an even stronger one. These 60 hours spent with Nioh 3 have done more than dispel our doubts—they’ve shown us that every change introduced by Koei Tecmo was conceived with exceptional care and relevance. Nioh 3 has become an exploration game, and it feels like this was its calling from the very beginning…Smartly reconfigured around the complementarity between samurai and ninja, enhanced by well-judged new mechanics, and boasting unshakeable nervousness, versatility, and depth, Nioh 3’s combat system reaches remarkable heights of intensity and enjoyment. The few flaws that can be pointed out—such as a weak story and recycled enemies—won’t prevent Team Ninja’s game from taking its crown.

Nioh 3 is the culmination of Team Ninja's three previous souls-like games, pushing each aspect a little further. While not entirely perfect, it is steadily approaching perfection. It is one of the must-have souls-like games for any fan of the genre.

Too much of Nioh 3 is too similar to past Nioh games, so while that means it has a few glorious boss fights and fluid controls, it lets down the innovative spirit the series was founded on.

The best of the 3 Nioh games! The Ninja makes the game more accessible. It’s not an easy game but it was super fun. Got the platinum today and I’m so happy!

spinforwin-elementalAoE-hilarious tracking grab-unlimited stamina... this is ONLY Team Ninja boss design skill and idea.
At level 91, with 34 samurai and 68 ninja unused skill points, I had absolutely no motivation to continue playing this unoptimized, bug-filled garbage. Never again team ninja

Before I start, I need to explain where I’m coming from. Nioh 2 is my favorite Souls-like game ever. Not necessarily the best in the genre, but personally? It’s number one for me. I put 200+ hours into it, played every DLC, experimented with builds, and basically squeezed everything that game had to offer. So when Nioh 3 was announced, I was hyped. Especially because there was a point where people thought the series was done after Xbox bought team ninja. When this game was revealed, it instantly became my most anticipated game of the year. And honestly? …I’m disappointed. Enemy Variety (Biggest Problem) The biggest issue for me is how many enemies feel like they were pulled straight from Nioh 2. Yes, there are some new ones, and I appreciate that. But overall, it often feels like you’re fighting the same enemies you’ve already spent hundreds of hours fighting before. Because of that, the game sometimes feels less like a true sequel and more like an expansion for Nioh 2. For longtime fans, that’s frustrating. Gameplay Changes To give credit where it’s due, the gameplay is still very good. The core combat is still classic Nioh — fast, technical, and satisfying. One of the major new ideas is the style switching system, where you can shift between different combat styles like Samurai and Ninja. Each style has different weapons, equipment, accessories, and approaches to combat. I see what they were going for. But personally?
I’m not really a fan of it. In Nioh 2, I liked focusing on one weapon and mastering it. Here it feels like the game is constantly nudging you toward juggling multiple styles instead of committing to one. Some players will probably love the added variety, but for me it diluted the focus. That said, the weapon variety is still great, and mechanically the combat remains one of the best in the genre. Story I’m going to be honest here:
Nobody plays Nioh for the story. The story is fine. It exists. It’s serviceable. But it’s not winning any awards, and it’s definitely not the reason people buy this game. Difficulty Another thing that surprised me: the game isn’t that hard. Compared to earlier entries, I didn’t find myself struggling much. There are spikes here and there, but overall the difficulty felt lower than I expected — especially as someone who played through the entire game solo with no summons. Personally, that’s how I think Souls-likes should be played anyway:
You beat it yourself first. Graphics On the positive side, the graphics look great. The environments and visual effects are strong, and the game definitely looks like a modern upgrade. DLC Concerns I actually pre-ordered the game, but I almost bought the full version with the season pass included. Now I’m honestly glad I didn’t. Maybe the DLC will add: new Yokai new weapons But the base game right now feels like it’s missing that “wow” factor. Final Thoughts If Nioh 2 was one of your favorite games then I dont know how you can really enjoy this game as it is. However if you never played nioh series before then 100% pick up Nioh 3 you will love it. It’s not a bad game. Not even close. The combat is still strong, the visuals are good, and fans of the formula will still enjoy it. But it feels too familiar. And in a year where gamers have limited time and tons of competition — from big releases like Resident Evil entries and other upcoming titles — I expected Nioh 3 to dominate my playtime. Instead, I find myself feeling like I’m forcing myself to keep playing. Maybe it’s because I’m older.
Or maybe it’s just because Nioh 3 reminds me so much of Nioh 2… that I’d almost rather just replay Nioh 2. It’s still a good game. But coming from the high bar set by its predecessor, it ends up feeling just… alright. Im gonna update this later....

I love the gameplay, but I regret not getting it for PC. On PS5 Pro, it's a blurry mess. The final release seems worse than the Demo, I am of course playing on Performance mode, 30 fps mode is unplayable.
